  • Secret Message Written On Inside Of Queen’s Wedding Ring

The Queen wears a simple wedding ring made from Welsh gold, just like Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and Princess Diana’s wedding rings, but there’s one big difference – a secret message

The Queen has a secret message inscribed on the inside of her wedding ring.

Queen Elizabeth II married Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey, in front of 2,000 guests and 200 million people around the world who tuned into the BBC broadcast.

As is traditional in the royal family, her ring is made from Welsh gold, in a simple style to those worn by Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and Princess Diana.

But what sets Her Majesty’s ring apart, is that she has a secret message inscribed on the inside of hers which has remained a mystery since that day, with only three people who know what it says: the Queen, Prince Philip, and the jeweller who engraved it.

The Queen reportedly never takes her wedding ring off – so the chances of anyone else glimpsing the hidden message are pretty low.

Not Everyone Loved That Iconic Blue Stone

Princess Diana’s sapphire blue engagement ring may be one of the most recognizable pieces of jewelry in history, but not everyone was a fan of the stunning blue bauble. As re-enacted on season four of Netflix’s “The Crown,” a young Diana got to choose the priceless accessory from a selection of royal jewels as well as rings from crown jeweler Garrard.

However, although the designer created the stunning ring for the then-soon-to-be princess with a white gold band and 14 solitaire diamonds, the ring was featured in the jeweler’s catalog, meaning anyone could have bought itassuming they had £47,000 to dish out for the rock. According to Vogue, this reportedly did not sit well with the royal family, who didn’t want commoners having the same access to jewels fit for royals.

According to The Daily Mail, the jeweler found inspiration from Prince Albert’s wedding present to Queen Victoria in 1840. The late prince gifted the Queen a brooch with a similar diamond and sapphire design, which she wore as her “something blue” on her wedding day. In the decades since, Queen Elizabeth has repeatedly worn the same brooch at public events.

The late princess continued to wear her engagement ring even after she and Prince Charles divorced in 1996. After her death, Prince William inherited the sapphire sparkler, eventually using it to propose to Kate Middleton in 2010.

One of the many fabulous things about the Netflix historical drama The Crown is all the behind the scenes views of royal family life. The eye-popping luxury of the lifestyle with the palaces and teams of people assisting the royals every need from dressing them to reloading their shotguns on hunts. Yet, everything is far from perfect at Buckingham Palace. The Windsor familys famous dysfunctions are also on full display. In fact, its the chinks in the proverbial armor that are part of what make the story so riveting.

In the first episode, Wolferton Splash, the politics surrounding young Princess Elizabeths wedding to Prince Philip and her steely resolve play into the plot. What was left out was the drama surrounding her engagement ring and wedding jewelry.

There was only one problem with the ring. On the big day, July 8, 1947, when Philip asked Elizabeth for her hand, the ring was too big to fit on her finger. It was resized in less than two days so Elizabeth could wear it to the Buckingham Palace garden party where the couple officially announced the engagement.

The Truth About Queen Elizabeth’s Engagement Ring

As the world reflects on the life of Prince Philip, who died at 99 years old on April 9, mourners are remembering the beginnings of his relationship with Queen Elizabeth. The Duke of Edinburgh officially proposed to Queen Elizabeth in 1947. According to Town and Country, however, he first proposed to the Queen in 1946, in Scotland. King George insisted that the couple postpone their engagement until his daughter was a little older.

It was at the second proposal that Prince Philip presented the famous engagement ring, which features a three-carat, round-cut diamond. Interestingly, Prince Philip was outside the norm in proposing with a diamond. Brides reports that a marketing campaign, which was designed by the British company De Beers, launched the same year as Prince Philip’s proposal and helped popularize the diamond engagement ring. The slogan “a diamond is forever” resonated greatly with the public. To this day, diamonds are the engagement stone of choice.

Queen Elizabeth’s engagement ring also has remarkable significance and meaning. The late Duke designed it himself out of a family heirloom.

Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding Rings Have A Lot Of Family History Here’s Their Story

    Iconic Royal Engagement Rings

We all know that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have one of the great royal love stories of our time. Evidence of that love story sits right there on the queen’s finger every day via her wedding band and engagement ring. Like many royal women, the queen wears her two rings and has since her 1947 wedding. And, just like so many others, she has quite a story behind both of her rings.

As Town and Country explains, the engagement ring that Philip gave to Elizabeth in 1946 was both a family heirloom and a brand-new piece. Confused? Let us explain. The ring includes a center diamond, surrounded by several smaller, pavé diamonds. Although the ring itself was new, the diamonds were not. When he revealed his plans to propose, Philip’s mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, gave him a tiara that she herself had been given on her wedding day so that he could have it dismantled and use the stones to make a ring for his wife-to-be. There were, obviously, more stones in the tiara than were needed for the ring, so Philip also had a bracelet made as a wedding gift for Elizabeth.

In public, the queen is often seen wearing gloves, so her wedding rings aren’t always visible. When the gloves come off, though, the rings are right there, just as they have been for over 70 years!
