What To Wear To An Evening Beach Wedding

Halston Mock Neck Drape Front Dress

What to Wear to a Beach Wedding

When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a timeless little black dress. This luxe knee-length number with an elegant mock neckline is a stunning choice for any fall wedding on your calendar. Add a leather jacket for an edgy touch, or wrap up in an elegant shawl for a formal affair.

What To Wear To A Beach Wedding: Women

  • If the invitation indicates that you should wear beach formal attire, then a long, elegant gown is perfectly appropriate.
  • Semi-formal beach attire calls for short or tea length dresses, which are great because they wont drag in the sand, plus they transition beautifully to a reception venue held at a restaurant or oceanfront hotel.
  • Are you wondering what to wear to a casual beach wedding? Our advice is a nice Maxi dress. A maxi dress is loose fitting, especially around the bottom of the dress so you can easily sweep it across the sand and brush it clean on land for a seaside reception.

Pay Attention To Footwear

Footwear is a key consideration for a destination wedding in Connecticut. Open-toed shoes work nicely in the summer, but youll want to think carefully about the beach location if the bride and groom choose to share their vows in the sand, your favorite pair of stilettos may not be a wise choice. Dressy flats or sandals, on the other hand, are perfectly acceptable for a Connecticut beach wedding and will have you feeling comfortable for the entirety of the ceremony and reception.

Regardless of preferred heel height, flip flops should be avoided at all costs even for a decidedly casual beach wedding. Not only are they far too casual, but they also arent particularly conducive to dancing and other wedding reception activities.

The Time Of Day Affects Your Choice

As if it were a ceremony in the city, getting married at 11:00 am is very different than doing it at 4:00 pm. The earlier it is getting ready for intense heat and the beautiful scenery in the background. For the same reason, you can play with colors and patterns, in addition to taking more risks with your look. For example, wear shorter dresses, a jumpsuit, or a crop top set with a skirt. Since the weather is an important factor, the protocol and etiquette become more relaxed. Here, the only thing prohibited is to go with heavy and rigid fabrics or long dresses such as one for the ballroom.

For the afternoon, the ideal would be a short day dress, with characteristics very similar to one in the morning, with the only difference being that it is preferably at knee height or one or two fingers above. On the other hand, a wedding at night, the ideal setting would be a long and light dress, you will look great.

Wedding Guest Hair And Makeup

Beach Wedding Guest Dresses

Brides should schedule 2 hours minimum for hair on their wedding day. As a guest, you do not have to go to these lengths, but you will want to spend time fixing your hair for the beach ceremony. Remember the sea breeze can be gusty when choosing a hairstyle. Hair and makeup are not clothing, however, how could we forget your most important feature, your lovely face! Beach destination weddings have a feel of naturalness, so dont wear too much makeup or wear your hair as you would in a formal wedding or church ceremony. You can wear your hair up or down, however, the main thing is to not apply too much hairspray or a stiff gel that will subtract from a soft, natural feel. You can wear makeup that makes you feel pretty and presentable, however, a beach wedding with ocean breezes and bright sunshine will highlight a less is more aesthetic.

When To Dress Beach Formal

Dress codes like dressy resort and island chic are effectively the same as beach formal. Beach formal attire works well for many outside events:

  • Beach weddings
  • Fancy beach parties
  • Garden parties

If youre attending an event on the beach and it seems like a classy function, you should opt for beach formal wear. Your goal is to look nice while avoiding sweat and navigating sand easily. You can also dig into the beach theme with flowy fabrics and tropical colors or prints if you want.

Opt for this comfortable, outdoors-friendly style for other fancy outside functions like weddings, parties, and luncheons, too.

Ideal Shoes For A Beach Wedding Guest

Beach Formal & Beach Wedding Dress Code – What To Wear & What To Avoid – Gentleman’s Gazette

One of the most important things to know in advance is whether the wedding will take place on the sand or on grass . Beach or elsewhere, you should select shoes that are practical. You don’t want to be that guest struggling to walk in expensive high heels or scuffing up your nice shoes in the sand.

Ladies, skip the stilettos in favor of cute flats or sandals. Gentlemen, dont be afraid to sport a pair of nice sandals. Remember that you may be walking through sand and if you don’t have the option to take your shoes off, you’ll want shoes that are easy to walk in.

Different locations call for different footwear:

  • Beach : You should wear flat shoes to a beach wedding, particularly if it is being held right on the sand. Fancy flip-flops are perfect for most beach weddings – but why not take it up a notch with a pretty sandal? Flat sandals can be both chic and comfortable. Select a thong sandal embellished with crystals, stones or other adornments.
  • Grass or other hard surface: Try kitten heels, wedges, or Espadrilles.

Tip: You can always bring a pair of comfortable flip flops for dancing afterwards!

You’ll look like a million bucks in this sophisticated satin maxi dress. This earns a spot as one of our favorite formal fall wedding guest dresses thanks to the dramatic neckline and open back. Beach Wedding Casual Attire

The most typical attire for a beach wedding is dressy casual. This usually means that lighter fabrics and brighter colors are the go-to look for common beach weddings. Style gurus will say that colorful, resort-ready styles are perfect for casual beach weddings.

Think of what you would consider beach style. This usually button up white shirts, or tropical accessories with lots of color. You may also think of lighter fabrics like linen or cotton. This style of dress is common for outdoor weddings.

These styles can be applied to a casual wedding setting. Think of what you would wear to a fancy dinner on a cruise or at a resort, and that should be the goal for more casual beach wedding attire. We still recommend avoiding flip flops and choosing a nicer sandal, however.

What Is Beach Wedding Attire

Beach wedding attire is the same as any other wedding where you dress according to the formality of the event, but unlike a normal celebration, there are some small changes to accessories and fabrics that will make you much more comfortable, says Sweet Peach Planning owner Megan Papageorge.

First, do a quick search of the venue to check the level of formality. If the location simply overlooks the beach on a rooftop or patio, then just plan your outfit as usual, adds Papageorge. If, however, the ceremony and/or reception takes place in the sand, you can dress with confidence and adhere to the beachy vibes.

What Should Men Wear To A Destination Wedding

What to wear to a Beach Wedding

Pay close attention to what the invite states as the dress code. Theres a big difference between a beach wedding attire and tropical formal or tropical elegant attire. If the wedding youre attending leans less formal, you wont be expected to wear a suit and tie , and youre definitely not expected to go black-tie. However, with a tropical elegant or tropical formal dress code, you should assume a suit or blazer , and you should refer to the dress code to see if you should wear a tie or not.

No matter what, unless its strictly stated somewhere, stay away from sandals, shorts, or anything overly casual. This is a wedding, after all.
