And it’s a look that suits all kinds of wedding venues, whether elegant country houses or rustic barns.
But the best bit? Foliage is really easy to work with if you want to create your own décor. Wedding DIY has been popular for a good while now, with tutorials aplenty showing you how to add personalised touches to your day, from bouquet making to creating your own stationery. While ideas like these may be a super-creative couples idea of heaven, not-so-crafty couples won’t feeling so keen to bring out the PVA glue and ribbon.

How To Make A Flower Garland

Learn how to make a flower garland with this easy tutorial! Weve had so many requests for help creating garlands for weddings and other events that we put together these step-by-step instructions to show you how.
For this garland, we used Oasis Garland, Italian Ruscus, Hydrangea Mojito Green, Garden Rose Baronesse Hot Pink, Rose Creme de la Creme, Purple Statice, Purple Limonium, Gypsophila , and Tree Fern.
To being making your flower garland, cut the foam netting to the desired length . Once you have your desired length, drop the foam into a bucket of water big enough for the foam to fill and become fully submerged. After all of the foam cylinders are submerged, pull 0ut the garland and allow some of the excess water to drip off.
Start your floral garland by adding shorter sprigs of greenery to the foam. Put the pieces in at an angle , so the garland looks like it is laying down and so that you cover the connecting netting. You do not need to rotate the foam cylinder to cover the full surface area around there will be a strip of empty foam that is uncovered where the garland will rest.
Continue adding the greenery to each of the foam pieces until they are mostly covered .
Now add the larger featured blooms! Because hydrangea heads are so large, we cut the large blooms into pieces.
Then place the smaller sectioned pieces throughout the garland.

Three: Arrange The Flowers
Feed in the hydrangea, rhododendron, and rosemary along the garland wherever you want them. Depending on where the garland is to be displayed, it may be easier to hang up the line of foliage first and then add the flowers along its length. In this way, less of the garland is likely to come adrift when you hang it in position.
Top tip: When laying out the foliage, think of it as like a long, fat sausage, and the fatter you can make it the better but there are no hard-and-fast rules for making this project.

Hanging Garlands In A Water Source
When decorating mantels, doorways and railings, plastic mesh connected floral foam garland cylinders make the task easier and keep flowers fresh longer. The floral mesh connections between forms can be clipped apart to accommodate specific garland lengths, as needed.

Diy Wedding Babys Breath & Roses
Gypsophila aka Babys breath is such a beautiful flower- and in my opinion, one that is often overlooked for simple elegance. A lot of people dont look at babys breath and think of it as a center stage kind of flower- they see it more as a filler. Which in fairness, it is a filler flower. But it is so much more than that.
It is timeless, romantic, elegant, dainty and is absolutely beautiful. When we were talking about wedding reception decor for the tables Diem was originally thinking arrangements for each of the 8 tables.
Side note: You will have to forgive the lighting on some of these photos- my phone snaps really picked up that yellow tone of their lighting.
We had white roses with babys breath in mind and then we thought about doing garlands. I checked into ordering garlands made out of babys breath- and the cost for 8 tables and the sweethearts table with a larger arrangement was on the pricey side. But I do have a source at the flower market who makes garlands and wreaths so I reached out to see what the cost was directly through him. It was far more reasonable and about the same price as buying bunches and wiring them together yourself. So, we ordered 7 garlands for the tables and white roses to customize.

You can also buy the flowers and foliages you need from a local florist, often at pretty competitive prices. You can also order custom, pre-made garlands from them too. Always worth checking out, IMHO!
If you want to substitute or add some silk flowers rather than fresh, you can find an outstanding selection online at NearlyNatural, and at many craft stores such as Hobby Lobby and Michaels, or by ordering them through your local florist.
One other bit of advice, if I may. Because you are using fresh foliages for the garland, go ahead and substitute silk flowers if you want to. They will look great, as the fresh greens will keep your wedding garland retain its lifelike appearance.

Decorating A Narrow Table
