Halston Mock Neck Drape Front Dress
When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a timeless little black dress. This luxe knee-length number with an elegant mock neckline is a stunning choice for any fall wedding on your calendar. Add a leather jacket for an edgy touch, or wrap up in an elegant shawl for a formal affair.
Find The Perfect Footwear
Fall weddings allow for a lot when it comes to styles and ideas, but there is one category where fall weddings have a hard line: open-toed shoes. Open-toed shoes are great for summer and spring events, but should be avoided when dressing for a fall wedding. Rather than show some toe, we suggest opting for a closed-toe option, statement shoe or for more casual weddings, an elegant heeled bootie. Closed-toe options will keep your feet warm and give off a more formal and cold-weather vibe.
White Tie Wedding Attire For Guests
White tie is the most formal and sophisticated of all dress codes. So, be prepared to dress to the nines with an elegant, full-length evening or ball gown. Traditionally, long gloves are also worn for white tie. However, theyre more of an optional extra in todays modern world. If you do choose to wear gloves, you should leave them on while drinking and dancing and take them off for dinner.

What Do You Wear To A 4 Pm Wedding
If you are attending a 4 pm wedding, you must first note the location and any dress code that the invitation has required. If it is a formal event or casual one, dress appropriately, choosing something that can easily be transitioned from day to night. You may want to bring a shawl or something similar to cover up in the evening if you expect it to get cold.
Dress To Impressand To Code
Like any other wedding season, fall weddings tend to be bound by dress codes. If youre attending a more laid-back wedding, opt for a casual fall wedding guest dress thats simple, classic and can be dressed up with accessories and footwear. A good way to decide whether or not your casual fall wedding dress is too much is to ask yourself would I wear this to a work event? If the answer is no, opt for something less bold. If the answer is yes…youre golden. At Fame and Partners, our cocktail collection has some great casual wedding guest looks in vibrant fall colors.
Formal weddings are where things get interesting. Formal fall weddings are the time to explore evening gowns and even high-end cocktail dresses featuring beading and other embellishments. Look for formal gowns in fall colors that have a little something extra to make them stand out. Sequins, stones…you get the picture. With formal fall weddings, we suggest keeping things floor-length, but if that just isnt your thing, feel free to go shorter but aim for below the knee if possible.

What Should A Female Guest Wear To A Wedding
Female guests should wear outfits that they are comfortable in and that is modest yet chic. Depending on the wedding venue and the theme, the dress code can change, but in general, it is best to avoid showing too much skin, do not pick anything low cut, and keep your heels to an appropriate length. Tea-length dresses, midi dresses, and maxi lengths are all wonderful options for a female wedding guest. You can also wear a jumpsuit or a pantsuit.
Winter Wedding Attire For Guests
When dressing for a winter wedding, its important to consider both the formality of the event and the weather. To beat the cold while looking sophisticated, opt for a long dress or suit. Try choosing designs with sleeves as well as styles in heavier fabrics to ensure youre kept warm throughout the ceremony and reception. Those in deep hues, such as navy and burgundy, make particularly chic options. It may also be ideal to bring a smart coat or shawl with you.

Determine Your Dress Length
When searching for the perfect dress to wear to a fall wedding, length is key. Like spring, fall is a transitional season which means that you have more room to play with dress length than you would in summer or winter.
While long and short dresses both work well at fall weddings, we suggest trying to stay somewhere in the middle. When you go too short, you risk giving off some serious summer vibes. Too long and you risk getting overheated on warmer than usual fall nights. One of our favorite fall wedding looks is a classic jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are great because they are comfortable, move well and give you the length you may want without feeling cumbersome or bulky.
Formal Evening Fall Weddings: Tuxedo
If youre planning to attend or host a formal fall wedding in the evening, we suggest a tuxedo. We have much more comprehensive information for black tie attire, but a quick rundown of black tie is as follows:
- Black or midnight blue dinner jacket with matching trousers
- White French cuff shirt
Black Lapel Made to Measure Tuxedos
As mentioned above, the tuxedo is regarded as semi-formal wear. Its traditionally worn after 6pm or sunset and was once regarded as more relaxed than clothing worn during the day. Indeed, thats quite ironic by todays standards!
If you choose to have a formal wedding in the evening, the default outfit is a tuxedo. This should actually allow you to breathe a sigh of relief, as the options for tuxedos are much more limited than those for suits and are thus easier to handle.
In the event of chillier weather -a late October wedding, for example- a three-piece tuxedo will be both handsome and functional, keeping you a bit warmer.
Although we relax our rules around rented clothing for morning dress, we firm them right back up again with regard to tuxedos. A proper one can be purchased relatively cheaply nowadays, and you and your party will look better for it.
This ease of acquisition also applies to guests invited to a black-tie wedding. Weve recommended a few brands below if you need some guidance.

A Cold Shoulder Dress Is Right On Trend
Many Vineyard weddings are elegant affairs that call for something with an air of sophistication. This gorgeous plum sheath dress fits the bill. The one shoulder detail is very elegant and feminine, and the stunning turn down satin neckline adds just the right amount of drama. This is a dress with a high presence, but it doesnt overwhelm. Perfect for a wedding with a unique vineyard atmosphere.
Finally, a reminder, if you are going to a wedding at a Winery, now is the time to shop for vineyard wedding guest dresses. If you leave it to just before the wedding, I guarantee you will be tearing your hair out. Its too stressful to leave such an important thing to the last minute!
Enjoy the wedding. Have a lovely time!

Informal Daytime Fall Wedding: Wear A Suit
By informal, we mean a suit or potentially something even more casual. The beauty of a wedding is that you dont have to wear your staid navy blue suit if you dont want to.
This is an opportunity to have a bit of fun, especially if you have a closet full of navy and grey that you wear to work. Some color options to consider for the fall:
- Medium grey
- Dark blue
Ever wanted to wear a boldly-patterned suit like a windowpane or a plaid? Nows your chance. Curious how youd look in a double-breasted waistcoat? You can also seize the opportunity to wear a bow tie if youve been too cautious in the past to do so.
With no boss or clients to appease, you can let your personality shine through to the extent that you feel inclined to do so.
You can let your peacockishness come through even more during the day. Even though its autumn, your daytime colors can be a bit bolder than your nighttime ones. In fact, autumn is a colorful season so you can certainly enjoy experimenting with different hues for a creative outfit.
As far as shirts and other furnishings are concerned, color coordination can be as simple or as complex as you like. In fact, we have a whole series on it if you need help! Scroll further down this article to read about typical autumn colors.
Unlike formal dress codes, there is also more freedom for accessories. For instance, you could provide lapel flowers for guests or even arrange for real flower boutonnières for the groomsmen and close family.

How To Dress For Fall Wedding: Choose Complementary Accessories
Dress up your outfit with colorful accessories. You can bring a shawl in pretty fall hues to keep warm. You might also consider wearing flats to an outdoor wedding to keep from sinking into the mud. For an indoor wedding during the fall, you can wear pumps or peep toe shoes, but stay away from sandals because they are more appropriate for a summer wedding.

To A Black Tie Optional Fall Wedding
One way to stand out in the sea of formal gowns and cocktail dresses is to incorporate a dramatic accent like feathers. “Feathers are a fun trend I like to pair with classic Manolo Blahnik heels,” advises designer Pia Arrobio. Though they can be a bold embellishment, we love them on the hem of a timeless little black dressfor example, the way they’re accenting this Alberta Ferretti sheath. This will definitely let your Manolos get some shine. And you can wear your hair down or in an updo as the focal point is all about your curves and legs.
When it comes to weddings, I usually like to stay on the side of making more of an effort rather than less. It feels a little more courteous to the couple, and the extra energy you are putting in goes a long way to show how special and important you acknowledge the day to be, explains fashion stylist Anita Pattrickson. According to Patrickson, short dresses are discouraged, and you should stick with at least a midi-length dress.
Grotts also suggests cocktail attire for a black-tie optional wedding. Cocktail attire works for women, and a dark suit works for men, she says. Grotts further explains that black-tie optional is not always clearly defined, but if you read between the lines, it generally means that the host will be wearing a tux, and they hope that their guests will as well, but it is not a requirement.
