Creating Text For The Cricut Wedding Invitation

DIY Wedding Invitations on a Cricut (Free Templates!)

Use the text tool to create the text overlay.

A few things to keep in mind when you are done creating the text, make sure everything is attached and set the Fill = Print. I select black as the color for text but you can do any color or pattern fill.

Do not forget to select all the text and Flatten. If you do not do this part, the Cricut will attempt to slice all the letters.

Be sure to attach the text and graphics together and then Flatten.

Materials For Cricut Wedding Invitations

Vellum Inkjet Paper This is a special transparent paper that can be used for printing. This is the I used for this example. You can always use traditional white cardstock as well.

Cutting Machine I use a Cricut. Check out my recommendations for Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.

Transparent PNG graphic A more accurate description is probably just a graphic element with the background removed. If you are interested in the watercolor example, I have a watercolors textures kit available in my online shop.

I am so excited to share my entry into the Cricut Design Space Star Challenge for September! The category for this month was Celebrations and my team, Team 14 , chose a Floral/Woodland theme. My contribution was the invitations, and Im psyched to show you how awesome an invitation that is made 100% by the Cricut Explore can look! I will add links to all of my teams posts at the bottom of this post as they become available so that you can see more Woodland Celebration Inspiration! Can you believe the above invitation was created 100% with my new Cricut Explore ? The invitation and RSVP card used a pen and the blade to write and cut. The card folder used the scoring pen and blade, and the RSVP envelope used all three. It is 100% doable to make your very own rustic wedding invitation, on a budget, and still have them be spectacular!

This package utilizes an invite and RSVP that I created and printed with a computer and inserted into the card folder. Still a fun way to DIY your own invites and really get a chance to personalize them to your style and tastes.

How does one go about making the Rustic Wedding Invites from above?

Come close and Ill share my secrets with you!

Cardstock The gold cardstock I used in the photos can be found here. It was a little lighter in weight than most cardstock I use for cutting crafts but it was worth the effort give the finished look.

In general, I think medium weight cardstock with colored cores work best for this project. Here are some of my favorite brands:

  • Assorted Starter Pack Basic assorted colors, great starter pack, perfect weight for most papercraft projects
  • Cricut Joy Insert Card Packs You dont have to use these with the Cricut Joy, they are nice material kids for cardmaking.
  • I love the quality of all the matte-colored cardstock with Cardstock Warehouse. It is my go-to brand for individual matte colors that I might need
  • Poptone Assorted Variety Pack This is the perfect peppy assortment of colors of heavy cardstock. Its a heavy cardstock assortment with colors I actually use frequently for cardmaking.
  • Seasonal Assorted Variety Pack This is a slight variation on the Poptone assortment and has a quite few neutrals that complement almost any accent color.
  • Stardream Metallics Line For paper crafts, the Stardream line is the go-to for a metallic shimmer finish. It is the perfect sheen to make any project pop. The core is also colored is which hard to find for metallic paper.

Cutting Machine I use a Cricut. Check out my recommendations for Cricut machines and accessories for beginners for more info.

Making Wedding Invitations With Cricut

How to Make Cricut Wedding Invitations

A wedding ceremony is usually an exciting affair, and every couple usually wants things to be perfect. However, perfection also comes with a very expensive price tag as it means going for nothing short of the best. If youve gotten married before or been part of a wedding committee, then you know how expensive it can be to order for wedding cards. Especially if you need quality cards made.

However, if you own a Cricut machine, you can easily make your own wedding invitation cards and save yourself money that can go into other wedding expenses. As you know, weddings arent cheap. The best part of being able to make your own wedding cards is that you are able to custom make it to your own liking and while itll take a bit of time, it wont cost you more.

For starters, you need to settle on your wedding colors as this will help determine what color you will print your cards in. However, if you prefer a different color for your wedding invitations, that is also fine. Next, you will need to choose the wording that you want on your invitation card. These include things such as who will host the wedding, the venue of the wedding, date, reception and any other info that you think should be on your wedding card.

Diy Weddings Are So In Right Now Ive Made These Free Wedding Invitation Svg Files For The Cricut So You Can Save A Little On Paper Goods

I saw on Etsy the other day these laser cut invitation sleeves were $6 a pop! Thats just crazy. By that standard, it is way more cost-effective to make them yourself.

I then looked around for SVG templates and saw a bunch on Etsy as well. But then I realized theres no way I would be able to make 10 of these using these designs much less 100. The weeding and the intricacy of the design were just too much.

Ive designed and made a few of these invitations on my Cricut and learned a lot from this project. Not every design works well for a mechanical cutting machine but Ive done my best to optimize these designs.

Many of the ones I saw on Etsy were more geared towards laser cutters which run for thousands of dollars.

Full disclosure, if you are doing a large wedding, I really would consider making the band rather than the bigger more intricate invitation sleeves. Weddings are stressful enough, only do the DIY projects that are fun!

How To Create Invitations

How to Make Wedding Invitations Using Cricut Maker

First we need to design our invitations in Design Space. Insert rainbow image or any image you want to use. Add a shape big enough for text. Then, add the text with information about the party. Cricut fonts used in this project include: DJ Flirt, Jacoby Black, and ITC Migrate STD Regular. I layered two rectangles and made one lighter so the text would show better. This is where you get to be creative. Add different shapes and images.

Once you have all your elements on your canvas, make sure everything is set to PRINT | CUT by selecting PRINT under FILL. Arrange your images and text so everything is centered and aligned. I like to group my elements as I line them up.

Next, click SELECT ALL and ATTACH, Then you have to click FLATTEN. This is the most important step so your Cricut knows to cut the outline of your entire image and not each image on your canvas.

Now you are ready to click MAKE IT and send it to your printer.

After your design prints, add the cardstock to the cutting mat and let your Cricut Work its magic.

This is just one invitation example. Feel free to use this design HERE and just edit the birthday party info or hae fun creating your own invitations in Design Space. The possibilities are endless. And, stay tuned because I will definitely be sharing more invitation designs.

Project Number Four: Flower Garland

Grab your glue gun, a mini light string, and your cardstock. Here is the cutest project for your party pack:

In Design Space, search under projects Flower Garland J Goode Designs. If youd like all four flowers out of the same cardstock, customize by changing the colors of the flowers on the canvas. When you have the flowers the size you want , click Make and cut out your flowers.

Using the little tabs, glue your flower petals together. Place your flowers onto your light string. I actually glued the base of my flowers onto the light string. Its the best part of your party pack!!

I grabbed a cellophane bag in which to place all of my projects, and added a fun ribbon.

Now you can send your party packs to your bridesmaids!!!

Tutorials For How To Make Your Own Wedding Invitations With The Cricut

Laser cut wedding invitation, 5x7, Cricut Template, Tri ...

The first thing you need to do is decide on the graphics if you want to use any at all. Transparent PNG graphics are great for designing your own invitations. They are bitmap format image with the background already removed. It makes laying out and overlapping images and text so much easier.

Upload the invitation graphics Transparent PNG

When uploading the transparent PNG, be sure to select complex to preserve the details of the design.

On the following page, there is no need to select and erase anything. The Select and Erase function in Cricut Design Space is not very precise so it is important to upload a PNG image that with the background already removed.

Save the image as Save as a Print Then Cut Image.

Schedule And Plan Ahead

Printing your own invitations may be more affordable than having them printed by a pro, but it doesn’t always mean it will be faster. Be sure to give yourself time, grace, and patience when printing at home, because it can get a little complicated. Invitations should be mailed eight weeks before your wedding date, says Amy Gonzales, a designer at Smitten on Paper, a custom wedding invitation company. Be sure to count back from your wedding date and plan your printing time accordingly. Make sure you have about 10 percent more supplies than you actually need in case of mistakes or the need to reprint something, Gonzales adds.
