These beauties were made by printing our on vellum to give it a translucent effect. Then we printed the watercolor border on heavier cardstock.
Not only does the cardstock give the final invitation some weight but the basket-weave texture of this linen cardstock really shines through giving the watercolors a hand painted effect and adding a bit of interest to the end product. Then we fastened the whole thing together with a teeny gold brad to keep everything in order during transit and to add a bit of shimmer and shine.

Although it might seem unimportant, dont skimp on the paper it can make or break your invitation.
You should try to buy cardstock thats at least 65-pound, though 80-pound is even better.
I would recommend printing on the heaviest cardstock paper you can find and afford,writes Nathey. The thicker the invitation, the better it will look and feel. For her invitations, she used 110-pound heavy cardstock, which resists both bending and bleeding.
If youre printing from home , she says you should make sure your printer can handle whatever cardstock you choose. You can find this information in your printers manual, or by searching online for your printers max paper weight.
You can also choose different finishes for your paper for wedding invitations, popular finishes include cotton or linen, which are beautiful but more expensive.
For her golden snitch invites, Yates used premium linen cardstock. She felt it really added that something special to the wedding invitations, making them look elegant and sophisticated as opposed to normal card paper.

Next, its time to visit the post office to weigh your entire invitation and see how much postage itll require.

When it comes time to finally blissfully!!! mail out your invites, its a good idea to physically bring them to the post office.
That way, you can ask the postal worker to hand cancel them . Some post offices will do this for free, while others charge up to 20 cents per envelope.
Printing Cutting And Assembling The Invitations:
The invites are 3 layers in different shades: Seaglass, Opal, and Ice Blue. The paper I purchased will yield the 3 pieces for each invite, plus a response card and map card to also go inside the envelopes. The Ice Blue layer is the only printed layer of the invite itself. I used the custom print size settings to print the design onto the top layer of the invitation before assembling the layers.
I created cutting templates so that I could take the papers to Kinkos to get the papers cut. They charge $1 per cut.
Their industrial paper cutter can do exact measurements and cut 100s of sheets at a time. It cost me $16 plus tax to get the paper cut.
It was so worth it- imagine cutting 100s of pieces of paper and trying to do it accurately! Save yourself the headache and take your paper to Kinkos! I cannot stress this enough.
