How Early Should I Send Wedding Invitations

You May Be Wondering So What Do You Recommend For Mailing Wedding Invitations

When To Send Wedding Invitations (AND SAVE THE DATES)

My professional recommendation is to send wedding invitations out no sooner than 6-10 weeks before the wedding. This will help avoid false yes, forgetfulness, wasted money in reprints, and avoid stress of re-communicating any changes that may come.

I also highly recommend you hiring a stationery designer to help alleviate any stress in the process.

My heart is to help you have the most enjoyable engagement season possible as your planning your wedding. Mailing invitations is an area that I see being a stressful point for SO MANY of the brides Ive talked to. Thats actually part of the reason I love doing stationery for weddings now I take it entirely off their plate and let them do what is fun for them instead of worrying about all these things.

For most brides, they are only sending save the dates or wedding invitations ONCE and this is their very first time. For me, Ive done this MANY TIMES and I am not new to the issues that arise or how to smoothly solve them.

If youd like to chat more about what it would look like to outsource your invitations schedule a free consultation with me here!

I take care of not only designing the invitations, but offer a full-service experience from the initial concepts > putting your invitations in the mail > designing day-of good for your day. You can see what Im working on RIGHT NOW by following along on the gram.

What About Invitations For International Guests

If you’re inviting just a few overseas guests, send their invitations along with the ones for your other guests, but make a point to give them a heads-up. Give them a call or send them an email with the details, as well as information about booking hotel rooms, so they can start to arrange their travel with time to spare.

Does half of your family live abroad? You might want to consider bumping up the timeline for them and the rest of your guests. Start designing your invitations a few weeks early and plan to send them out a minimum of 12 weeks in advance.

Be sure to follow up promptly with anyone you haven’t heard from to make sure they have plenty of time to book their flights.

You will also want to have all of the information available on your wedding website as soon as save-the-dates are in the mail. Sure, it means you’ll have to start ironing out the hotel room block and transportation information sooner than you’d expected, but you’ll be happier in the long run. Those overseas guests will have all the information at their fingertips, and you’ll have even more crossed off of your to-do list.

How Early Should You Send Wedding Invitations

Invitations should be sent to your guests six to eight weeks in advance of your wedding. Invitations for destination weddings should be sent to your guests three months in advance of your wedding.

Keeping this in consideration, Can you send wedding invitations 6 months in advance?

Its OK to send your save the date cards out 6 -12 months before. However, if you send your invites as much as 4-6 months early, you risk them getting lost or your guests actually forgetting the date as its so far off in the future.

Secondly What is the etiquette for wedding invitations? Keep It Simple. Wedding invitations should include the full names of the couple getting married, those of the hosts , and the place and time of the ceremonythats it. These invites, by Epoch Designs, do just that.

Do you send wedding invitations to the bridal party?

The short answers: No, its not redundant, and yes, you should send them. While youre right that clearly they know the scoop on the wedding, theyre still going to want an invite to remember the day. So while they dont necessarily need an invite, its still a lovely gesture to send one.

How To Send The Invitations

  • All wedding invitations should be mailed and sent by post. Whether you are sending an invitation to your next door neighbour or to your parents, they must be posted.
  • No wedding invitation should be delivered by hand and this applies to all invitations without any exceptions.

If you dont like the idea of mailing your wedding invitations by regular post, you could courier them. This will cost you a whole lot more than ordinary post but you wont have to contend with the ugly post office markings.

What it doesnt do is lock you in to any commitments to times, logistics or weather permitting details. WOOHOO!

Rehearsal Dinner Invitations: When To Send

Most agree that rehearsal dinner invitations should be sent out after the wedding invitations, but some couples choose to include them in the enclosure cards of the wedding invitation. You should plan to send them four to six weeks in advance, but for more detail, please review our resource on rehearsal dinner invitation wording.

When To Ask For Rsvps

Short Answer: 1 Month from Wedding Date

Your wedding invitation must include a way for guests to respond. Whether you choose to have guests RSVP online via your wedding website, or you send an RSVP card and pre-addressed envelope as part of your invitation suite, be sure to indicate an RSVP deadline so that guests know when they need to alert you to their decision. The rule of wedding invitation etiquette says that one month before your wedding date is the perfect amount of time: it offers a brief window for guests to receive the invitation and consider their decision, while also providing your wedding vendors enough advance notice to order and prepare supplies. The sooner youre able to get an accurate guest count, the sooner youre able to finalize your wedding planning details .

A one-month-prior deadline also adds some timeline padding for those stragglers who wont get their RSVP card in on timebecause you know there will be those!

After completing your guest list, the first step in any wedding plan is to send out a save the date card. The purpose of a save the date is exactly what the name entails to tell friends, family members, and other loved ones to reserve that particular day for your wedding.

When To Send Invitations For Pre

Weddings often feature a number of pre-wedding events, from bachelor and bachelorette parties to a rehearsal dinner and maybe a family brunch. Invitations for each event should be sent out at least one month prior, giving your guests enough time to prepare. If people are travelling for the wedding it can be a good idea to send out these invitations around the time of your main invites, or at least let guests know about them know by word of mouth, so they know how long they should plan to be in town for.

What About Rehearsal Dinner Invitations When Should We Send Those Out

After your guests have received your wedding invitation, they might be wondering if theres a rehearsal dinner and if theyre invited. We recommend sending out your rehearsal dinner invitations a week or two after sending out your main wedding invitations. That way, your guests will have enough time to adjust travel plans if needed. Rehearsal dinner invitations should be sent separately from your wedding invitations, even if the guest list is generally the same.

Are Electronic Wedding Invitations Tacky

Whether or not email invitations are tacky is more of a personal opinion, but most people would readily agree that theyre definitely informal. Just like you wouldnt wear a ballgown to a beach wedding or overalls to get married in a stately church, the style of your invitation should fit the style of your event.

Should You Ask For Gifts

How Soon Before The Wedding Should Invitations Be Sent Out

Although it’s customary to ask for wedding gifts, for a destination wedding when you’re asking your guests to spend the extra on travel and accommodation, writing something along the lines of “No need to give us a wedding gift, your making the journey is gift enough in itself!” is always a nice touch and a gratefully received gesture.

Allow yourself an extra week if you are using a regular mail service rather than express postage, and consider the delays that may occur for international guests, particularly if youre sending any invitations to developing countries. Just make sure you know how long you need to allow for postage times when you make your plans.

Wedding Invitation Etiquette: What To Send And When

Wedding planning requires you to take care of a lot of details some big, some small, and all very important. A wedding planning timeline can help reduce stress while ensuring that every detail is taken care of on time, resulting in a memorable event. Your wedding invitation is one particularly important detail. It not only announces your upcoming nuptials, but also sets the tone for the entire event.

When To Send Wedding Invites

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WEDDING INVITATION WORDING

Finding the right time to send out wedding invitations can be a difficult balancing act. The general rule of thumb is to send invitations 8 to 12 weeks before the date . You can set a date on the card for guests to RSVP by so that you can get a headcount, but prepare for some guests to fail to meet that deadline. If youre concerned that you need more time, send out your invitations 16 weeks before the wedding at the earliest.

Wedding invitations and RSVPs are important for a number of reasons. Not only do you want your closest guests to make it to the wedding, you also need a guest count to tell the venue for tables, chairs, and seating arrangements, and to tell caterers and other vendors so that you have the right amount of food, drinks, and so on.

We’re Having An Adults

Address your invitations correctlyto each guest by name, not “and guest”and guests should understand that the invite is meant for only those mentioned. If you find that some reply with their children’s names added, give them a call and explain you’re having an adults-only wedding and you hope they can still attend. If there are a lot of kids in your family, you may want to consider hiring or arranging for a babysitter. It’s definitely not required, but it’s a nice gesture. Just be sure to include this information on the wedding website.

Myth : You Will Get Rsvps Back Sooner If You Mail Wedding Invitations Sooner

You may. This is true. If all goes well, people will respond and let you know they can come and then their plans wont change despite the time between their response and the event. But reality is, for many people this probably will not be the case if they rsvp several months in advance.

Again, plans change. Not only from a wedding perspective, but also from a guests perspective. When asked months in advance, the yes is easier because life hasnt quite caught up yet. But when you invite someone closer to the date, they can give an honest response on if its possible for them to make it. This isnt personal, so try not to take it as such. Your guests may have unforeseeable circumstances that come up, such as being assigned a work trip over the week of your wedding.

Oftentimes, when couples mail their wedding invitations early, they get false yes that end up causing the couple to have a skewed guest count. The couple over orders all of their reception goods based on an incorrect number thus overpaying and getting frustrated.

Another thing, people may not respond sooner despite the invite arriving sooner. Many people will see that the RSVP date is not for a while, and set the invitation aside. Their intentions are probably to make sure that they are giving a truthful response as their calendar develops, but what may happen is that they set it aside and forget about it. By having a large response window, its easy to push back the priority of responding.
