You may also want to ensure that final payment is made before the day of the ceremony to avoid any unpleasantness that might arise if payment isnt made. Another tip: Call it a Retainer or a Booking Fee, rather than a Deposit. A quick final note after performing the ceremony, make sure to fill out the marriage license! IMPORTANT: Laws vary by state, but marriage licenses are generally only valid for a period of 30-90 days. Register With The Nyc City Clerks Office
Covid-19 update: As of March 2020, all NYC City Clerks Offices are temporarily closed due to coronavirus. However, you can still register to be an officiant online and mail in paperwork. After you are ordained by an accredited online organization, go here to register as an officiant. At the end, there will be an address to send your paperwork by postal mail. You should receive your ordination within a few weeks.
After you get ordained by an accredited online organization, they will mail you a ministry packet. This will include several documents, including a letter of good standing from the church, as well as a copy of the churchs Articles of Incorporation. These are two documents that you will need to send to the NYC City Clerks Office to get officially registered.
For those living within the 5 boroughs, youll need to make a trip to the NYC City Clerks Office at 141 Worth St. in Manhattan. Bring the documents from the church, as well as a government-issued photo ID and a credit card to pay . Wait in the queue, but once your number is called youll fill out some paperwork and sign a huge registry book , and then its official!

Once you have all your paperwork in order you simply need to submit them to the County Clerks office. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!
Ideally you would submit your Ministry Credentials in person however we understand that that is not always possible. Talk to the Clerks office beforehand to work out the best method of delivery.
Most Clerks will accept your documents by mail, so long as they are made aware that they are on their way. Some Clerks will also accept fax or email scans of your Ministry Credentials.
However, if they require an original document with live signatures then it will have to be delivered in person or by mail.

In order for a marriage to be legally binding, the wedding ceremony itself must include two key elements. The first is the Declaration of Intent this is most commonly recognized as the “Do you take… I do” exchange. The second is the Pronouncement, where you will pronounce the couple officially married. While most weddings will involve additional elements, these segments constitute the bare minimum for a legal ceremony. Make sure you cover them!
Planning the wedding ceremony itself is generally left up to the couple, though you may be asked to provide input or advice.
