Dresses to wear to a summer wedding | Style Real Talk

If you’re not sure what you should wear to a wedding, we’ve got you covered. When it comes to wedding fashion etiquette, there are a few rules that’ll help you find an outfit that’s appropriate and stylish. Brush up on these fool-proof tips below before you start shopping so you know exactly what kind of clothes you can wear to a wedding.

Go Light On Makeup And Jewelry

Fresh, minimalistic makeup is more flattering for a summer wedding. Ditch the heavy lipstick and apply a shimmering gloss to keep lips moist and shiny. Be sure to wear a sunscreen if youll be outdoors, but go light on the foundation or wear a light coating of powder instead.

Because youre probably wearing a light, breezy dress, you should also go light on the jewelry. Cumbersome baubles look awkward with an airy ensemble, so trade your chandelier earrings for pearls or studs. A little bling goes a long way in the summer time. Keep it light, and youll look and feel better.

Hi there,

The JCPenney dress has that lace detail, so she’ll want to stick with delicate jewelry to go with it. Same with the shoe a simple, elegant pump would work, for example. I don’t think I’d pair either dress with a cardigan it would probably be too casual. Try a wide scarf made of lightweight fabric and use it as a wrap. The brown dress would work with a soft ivory wrap. The deep purple of the Ralph Lauren dress would look stunning with a deep olive green. If that makes the ensemble too dark, try a soft shade of lavender.

Now, this is a hack in the true sense of the term. Wear a lightweight kurta and churidar. You can even go for cotton and silk mixed fabrics for this look as the main highlight of the look will be the dupatta.

With a simple solid colour pair of kurta-churidar, wear a dupatta which is heavily embellished or embroidered. The dupatta will steal the show and distract people away from your simple pair of kurta-churidar.

No, the dupatta does not have to be too heavy. You can choose a dupatta in a sheer fabric like net, georgette, chanderi etc. It just needs to have embellishments or zari work or embroidery on it.

What To Wear: Dreading A Semi Formal Summer Wedding

I have been invited to an out of town wedding. Itâs outdoors, in the Texas heat, on the grass and the invitation advises us to choose our footwear carefully. The attire is semiformal. Iâm a pear-shaped thirty-something who is most at home in jeans, tees and skate shoes and I like to hide my midsection the most. My bust line is large and embarrassing. I normally stick to loose fitting garments that swallow me up and my look could best be described as âtomboyâ or âplease donât notice me. To say that this is my worst nightmare is an understatement, but Iâm determined to try a dress and even wedges because this is my best friend’s wedding. Iâd like to spend no more than $100 on the dress and up to $50 on the shoes. Semi-formal is kind of vague to me, and all I know is that itâs just shy of prom and nicer than church clothes. Is there a list of doâs and donâts for what counts as semiformal?

I usually pare down my Ask Allie requests, but I kept the majority of your email because I think many can relate to your feelings about formalwear and their figures. Even I, who loves a frock, freaks out when I have to go to an event where I need to dress up and start questioning my figure.

Semiformal is really very open-ended. Youâre right, itâs nicer that most church clothes, but not a prom dress. This actually gives you a TON of options, and the ability to purchase a dress that could be worn again.

Classic/traditional Summer Wedding Dresses For Guests

When it comes to a classic or traditional type of summer wedding, its time to go formal. You know the bride will be looking flawless in her big, white dress, so you must look your best as well. Your safest bet is to choose a chic dress that finishes anywhere from the knee to the ankle. As traditional venues call for a higher dress code, pick a style that is a little more structured and polished than you would for other types of summer weddings. For color, choose between a block hue and a simple print. While it is ok to wear black, its good to lighten things up with color. After all, this is a celebration! If you feel yourself still leaning toward the dark hue, opt for navy instead. It will have the same elegant effect as black without the heaviness.

Unlike outdoor weddings, a classic wedding will feature an indoor location with a solid floor and is definitely the occasion for some appropriate stilettos. Dont go too blingy on the footwear, this is a wedding, not a nightclub, stick to your classic pumps or sandal heels in neutrals such as black or nude. Finish your look with your most stylish updo. Doing so will add an extra dose of glamour to your look for the special occasion.

What Never To Wear To A Wedding

WHAT TO WEAR TO A SUMMER WEDDING| WEDDING GUEST OUTFIT IDEAS
Jeans, Hats, Non-Collared Shirts

The standard rules of being well-dressed for a wedding still apply, so just like a restaurant or private club, the warning of ripped jeans, baseball hats, and non-collared shirts aren’t appropriate –unless it’s at the request of the couple that you dress down.

White or Off-White

Please don’t wear white or off-white dresses or anything that could perhaps photograph as white. Head- to-toe white suits or jumpsuits are also off-limits, too. Pale pastels like the palest blues, greens, yellows, grays, nudes and blushes all have a tendency to look lighter than they are in photos. A white wrap or sweater to throw on if you get chilly is generally fine, especially if it’s after the ceremony. Prints with some white elements are ok but just be sure the colors are much more predominant than any white background. We wrote a whole post about wearing white to a wedding, but we’re sure you get it — please, just don’t!

Anything Too Revealing or Too Short

And of course, don’t wear anything too short or revealing, and don’t look unkempt or wrinkled. If you have to fight with your outfit to keep parts of your body you’d rather not show, it might not be the right choice.

Even white is acceptable if the bride specifically asks the guests to comply. If the bride doesn’t specifically say what guests should wear, there are a few things you can consider to help you choose. The formality, location, and seasonal weather will all be key factors in determining your best outfit.

Accessories To Complete The Semi Formal Look

Sometimes all you need is the right accessories to take a simple dress from your closet and make it semiformal. I can’t recommend a signature or statement clutch or evening bag enough something with a bit of sparkle or a unique pattern even when paired with a printed dress can take your look to the next level and add a festive and formal touch. A sparkly statement or bib necklace is a great way to elevate a not-so little black dress or other dark-colored frock already hanging in your closet. A sparkly stud earring an oversized faux gem has a lot of power without overwhelming your look. Below I have carousels of some great accessories I have found around the web that are budget-friendly and will take your look to the semiformal level.
