Keep It Moving: A Shower Shouldnt Feel Forced
Part of keeping it light and fun is to keep the party moving. Most showers take place during a weekend to ensure the maximum number of guests can attend, and the prime hours for a shower are between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Part of the host/hostesss job is to keep the party on the decided schedule, and a rough outline of the days events will help.
Wedding Invitations : When To Send Out Wedding Invites And Save The Dates
Its a question that pops up not too long after the ring does when do I send out my wedding invitations and save the dates?
After an engagement, word of mouth and perhaps a shiny new rock helps spread the word of you and your fiancés upcoming nuptials. However, when it comes to formally getting the word out, there is proper protocol to follow to ensure your guest list is well-informed about your big day while giving yourself and your partner enough time to expect the RSVPs back to plan your wedding accordingly.
When it comes to sending out your save the dates and wedding invitations its all about timing there is such a thing as sending them too early.

Where Do You Put Information About Your Wedding Website
There are a few places you can include your wedding website without breaking any etiquette rules. A simple “TaylorandPayton.com” on your save-the-dates is a great way to let guests know from the beginning that you have a wedding website. You can also include your wedding URL on an insert card in your invitation suite . If you got your stationery from The Knot Invitations, you can set up a wedding website on The Knot to match. That way, your loved ones will get a cohesive design experience ahead of your big day.

When Should You Consider Ordering Your Invites
Once youve settled on a design, you need to order your invitations. If youre ordering custom, designs like those on offer at Crimson Letters, youll need to set aside at least 12 weeks for these to be agreed, completed and sent out to you. This means youll need to add an additional 2-3 months onto your wedding timeline. That means that if you plan to send out your invites 6 months before your wedding day, youll need to have these ordered at least nine months before your chosen date.
I know, theres a lot to think about with when to send out your wedding invitations!
But getting ahead with ordering your wedding invitations and RSVPs will give you more time to send them out and wait to receive the RSVPs from your guests. If youre ordering ready-made designs you should still give yourself a two month window to receive these. Getting ahead with your ordering will help to take the stress out of organising your big day.
And as with anything in life, things change and you may find that youve got additional guests youd like to invite. That or one of your invites gets lost in the post. For this reason, its a good idea to order some extra invites. The number of extra invites you order will depend on the size of your wedding, but giving yourself a 10% cushion to give you plenty to fall back on should you need them.
Where Do You Put The Return Address On Your Wedding Invitations
It might be tempting to skip this step, but including a return address on your wedding invitations is actually really important. If for any reason an invite doesn’t get delivered, you won’t end up losing it completely and you can reach out to the guest directly to update them on the issue and ask for another address. That way, you won’t risk any hurt feelings when they hear of others receiving their invitations and wonder why they didn’t get one.
The return address usually goes on the back flap of the envelope. Also, the return address used should be that of the person whom you’ve designated to receive response cards, be it yourselves or your parents . It’s also proper wedding RSVP etiquette to include the host’s address and postage on the envelopes for your response cards. Guests should not be expected to fill out this information or pay for postage themselves.

When Do The Invitations Go Out If Im Delivering Them By Hand
If you are hand-delivering your wedding invites that have been preceded by a save the date, we recommend you ensure your invites are out 4-6 weeks before your big day. If you are delivering by hand, we would recommend a premium print type such as foil stamped wedding invitations. However, where there is no save the date, allow three months. Make sure you get all your invitations out in a timely manner. If you only see one friend every three months, its better to send them their invitation rather than giving them their invitation two weeks before the wedding. Start the process of handing out or hand-delivering invites with enough time to get them all out. If you dont start delivering invites until 4 weeks before your wedding, youll have a very short amount of time to get them all to your guests.
You May Be Wondering So What Do You Recommend For Mailing Wedding Invitations
My professional recommendation is to send wedding invitations out no sooner than 6-10 weeks before the wedding. This will help avoid false yes, forgetfulness, wasted money in reprints, and avoid stress of re-communicating any changes that may come.
I also highly recommend you hiring a stationery designer to help alleviate any stress in the process.
My heart is to help you have the most enjoyable engagement season possible as your planning your wedding. Mailing invitations is an area that I see being a stressful point for SO MANY of the brides Ive talked to. Thats actually part of the reason I love doing stationery for weddings now I take it entirely off their plate and let them do what is fun for them instead of worrying about all these things.
For most brides, they are only sending save the dates or wedding invitations ONCE and this is their very first time. For me, Ive done this MANY TIMES and I am not new to the issues that arise or how to smoothly solve them.

When Should You Send The Save The Dates
As soon as possible! If you’re asking your guests to book travel and accommodation, it’s best to give them plenty of time to organize their plans. So it should be longer than it is for a home-based wedding where six to eight months is the norm. For a destination wedding, we would suggest sending your save the dates nine to twelve months ahead, if you can, to make sure it’s in the diaries of the people you want to be there. You might also want to include travel details for your guests at this point, rather than in the invitations.

Include More Details In Your Invitation Suite
The design of the invitation itself is truly up to you to choose, though professional wedding planners often recommend that you tie it into your wedding theme in some waythrough colors or design embellishments.
Wedding etiquette demands that the invitation only contains the above key details of the event. However, the invitation suite can include other important details:
- the appropriate attire for guests at the event
- a map to the event location
- accommodation details
- information about any wedding-related activities.
It can also include an RSVP card, with a please respond by date that is roughly four weeks prior to your event. Dont forget a self-addressed, stamped envelope!
Wedding etiquette also demands that you leave gift or registry information out of your invitation suite. If you have prepared a wedding registry for your guests convenience, family members can help to spread this information. Additionally, you can include registry information on your wedding website, with easy links to follow.
Another important detail is the wedding invitation envelope, which should always be hand addressed in beautiful handwriting. Your guests names should be written out in full, preceded by social titles like Mr. and Ms.
All the words in the address should be written out in full, with house numbers under twenty spelled out. The return address should be written on the back flap.
