What Qualifies You To Be A Professional Wedding Officiant In Georgia And South Carolina

What qualifies you to be a professional wedding officiant in Georgia and South Carolina?

We are all ordained Reverends through the Universal Life Church The ULC certification is recognized in 40 states, including Georgia and South Carolina.

The Universal Life Church believes that all people are naturally endowed with the right to control their own spiritual life and so do I. As an officiant, my job is to facilitate a wedding that reflects your faith, not mine. It is also an inclusive organization that advocated tirelessly for marriage equality over the last decade and that makes me proud to be a member.

The Universal Life Church credential allows me to work with couples of all spiritual and cultural backgrounds, including those who identify as atheists or prefer a secular lifestyle. In Georgia, unlike other states, a Justice of the Peace is a magistrate judge who deals with court matters and not someone who oversees legal marriages. That makes Universal Life Church Reverends essential for couples in our region who want to marry outside the traditional church structure.

Step 4return The Georgia Marriage License

After the marriage license is completed it must be returned to the County Clerk. This is usually the responsibility of the couple though some states require this to be done by the minister.Specific instructions on how to return the marriage license should be included with the marriage license when it is issued to the couple. If these instructions are not included with the marriage license, you can call the issuance office for further clarification.Regardless of who returns the marriage license or by what method, it is important to return the completed marriage license to its issuance office as soon as possible.Georgia has a law specifying how soon the marriage license must be returned to the County Clerkafter it is completed. In Georgia the completed marriage license must be returned within 30 days from the weddingto be in compliance with Georgia Law.As long as the completed marriage license is returned within 30 days from the weddingthe marriage license will be filed and recorded in Georgia.

How To Become A Legally Ordained Minister In Georgia

You live in Georgia and have decided to become an ordained minister. People make this decision for numerous reasons, including starting a business and performing weddings, but the ordination process varies little no matter why you have chosen to do this. Georgia does not have any state licensing requirements for ministers, so any ordination from a religious institution or online organization will satisfy state laws for performing rites such as marriage, baptisms and funerals. Georgia does not require the ordaining organization to appear within the state’s boundaries, or that a presiding minister actually live in the state.

Attend the required college or university training programs stipulated by the church or religious institution you wish to join, and complete the course work. Many religious organizations require seminary education prior to becoming ordained, though these requirements vary widely by institution.

Review the requirements of the organization you choose. Some require course work, some charge a flat fee, some charge a recurring fee, and some require nothing more than an email submission. Georgia’s First International Church of the Web requires you to have membership with the parent church, but does not charge a fee for ordination.

Advice For Performing A Georgia Wedding

Are you performing a wedding in Georgia? These are some things that you will want to consider when making your plans. First of all Georgia is a humid subtropical locale with long, hot summers and mild winters. This means if your couple is holding a summer wedding, you may want to opt for a breezy or flowing garment to officiate in so you stay comfortable. If the wedding is taking place in one of the many barn wedding venues in Georgia, or other outdoor wedding hotspots in the state, you will want to make sure your attire matches the formality of the wedding. The barn setting may be much less formal than an upscale former plantation house, for example. Fees that officiants in Georgia charge are dependent on a number of factors. How much professional experience the person has, whether theyâll be required to travel to the ceremony destination, and how much pre-wedding preparation is involved will all help determine a fair price.
