Do Opt For Comfortable Shoes
While it should be fairly common knowledge, I’m not talking about wearing your bright pink running shoes to a wedding. Rather, nice dress shoes that you can comfortably wear for a few hours. Alyce Head, wedding manager for Hamilton Place at Pursell Farms, suggests, “Choose shoes that are wearable for four hours.”
While we would all probably leave our shoes under the table and head back out to the dance floor during our high school proms, we should know better these days. “This tip combines etiquette and style,” she added. “It’s just not good form to be barefoot and carry shoes, or create a pile of discarded shoes in the corner of the reception space.”
While it may be tempting to buy those extra cute heels to wear just for the occasion, before throwing down your credit card, I highly encourage you to walk around the store and see if you could be comfortable wearing them for hours. If the answer is no, then either reconsider the purchase or pack a pair of flats you can change into between the wedding and reception and leave the extra in the car!
Summer Wedding Guest Dresses
The temperature may be soaring, but you still need to make sure your dress looks right for a wedding. Look out for light fabrics such as lace or chiffon. Pick a style with only one layer or light sheer layers that are breathable. Strapless and simple spaghetti strap dresses are both appropriate options. Opt for open sandals and dont forget to add powder or blotting paper to your clutch, to keep your makeup looking fresh.
What Not To Wear To A Wedding: The Same Color As The Wedding Party
Usually if the wedding invitation incorporates certain colors, that’s often the first indication of what the color scheme of the wedding will be. For instance, if you notice the invite has a blush trim and a gold envelope, those are likely the colors the bridal party will wear. “Sometimes it’s hard to predict, and you certainly don’t want to bog down the bride and groom with questions about attire,” says Meier. But, if you’re attending a pre-wedding event, like a bridal shower or bachelor party, it could be a good opportunity to quickly gather some intel from a bridesmaid or a groomsmen about the color scheme. If you can’t figure it out, don’t fret. “While you don’t have a lot of space in your evening bag or pocket for a full wardrobe change, you could bring something like a sparkly shawl, jewelry, or a bow-tie that instantly transforms your look so you can set yourself apart from the wedding party if you happen to be wearing the same color,” says Meier.

What To Wear To A Beach Wedding: Women
- If the invitation indicates that you should wear beach formal attire, then a long, elegant gown is perfectly appropriate.
- Semi-formal beach attire calls for short or tea length dresses, which are great because they wont drag in the sand, plus they transition beautifully to a reception venue held at a restaurant or oceanfront hotel.
- Are you wondering what to wear to a casual beach wedding? Our advice is a nice Maxi dress. A maxi dress is loose fitting, especially around the bottom of the dress so you can easily sweep it across the sand and brush it clean on land for a seaside reception.
What Do You Wear To A 4 Pm Wedding
If you are attending a 4 pm wedding, you must first note the location and any dress code that the invitation has required. If it is a formal event or casual one, dress appropriately, choosing something that can easily be transitioned from day to night. You may want to bring a shawl or something similar to cover up in the evening if you expect it to get cold.

For a mountain wedding, there are a few functional aspects to take into account too. “Typically, climates in the mountains tend to get a bit cooler as the sun goes down,” shares Biya. He recommends adding an overcoat, scarf, and/or gloves to your ensemble to help keep warm. Guests & Wedding Colors
While theres no rule saying a guest cant show up in wedding colors, we advise against it. Sure, if one of the wedding colors is blue and youre wearing a blue tie, youre obviously off the hook. But if the color scheme is peach, lime green, and tan, and you show up in a tan suit wearing peach socks and a green tie, thats weird and off-putting.
