Wedding Invitation Insert Information
Now that you’ve given your guests the basic info, it’s time to think about your invitation insertsthe separate cards that are presented in the same envelope as your wedding invitation. These will include other necessary details, like your RSVP deadline and your wedding website address. Your guests will appreciate getting everything in one envelope so they can properly plan for your nuptials.
What To Include In An Enclosure Card
Reception Details
If your reception is located at a different site than your wedding ceremony, you can use a reception card to provide details for the second venues name and address. You can still list reception details on your wedding invitation but if you want to avoid cramming in words, use a reception card to make your reception details clear. When it comes to the start time, you can list the actual start time or say immediately following the ceremony in your wording. You can also include any necessary parking instructions and transportation details for getting to the reception.
Response and RSVP Information
Using a response card, you can write out your RSVP details and give guests a deadline to respond by. Response cards are the most used type of enclosure card and help draw attention to the importance of RSVPing on time. Response cards usually include the deadline to respond by, a space for the guests to write their name and a plus one, an area to accept or decline the invite, and entree options to choose from. If youre using a wedding website to RSVP instead of an enclosure card, youll want to instruct guests on your invitations to RSVP on your website, along with listing the RSVP deadline.

If You Have A Wishing Well
It is becoming more and more common to request money in lieu of gifts as many couples have already lived together prior to getting married and have everything they need for their home. Some wording suggestions included:
Your love laughter and company on our wedding day is the greatest gift of all. However, should you wish to help us celebrate with a gift a wishing well will be provided on the day.
We look forward to your presence on our special day. We do nonetheless realise that some of you may wish to give us a wedding gift to commemorate our union together. After having lived on our own, we have all of the household items we need. However, for those of you who would like to give us a gift, we will have a wishing well at our reception that will go towards our future together.
If the gifts will be put towards a new house, home improvements or the honeymoon, often it is nice to mention the purpose for which the money will be used:
Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift of all. However, should you wish to honour us with a gift, a contribution to our honeymoon would help to create memories that will last a lifetime. A wishing well will be available on the day.

Required: Reply Card And Pre
No matter how you plan to track RSVPs, having a reply card enclosure is a must. Another nonnegotiable? Including a pre-stamped, self-addressed postcard or envelope to make returning that RSVP simple. You might also choose to include instructions for RSVPing on your wedding website this encourages more traction to the site, where guests can find additional information about the wedding weekend’s festivities.
Hosted By One Set Of Parents

Traditionally, the bride’s family hosted and paid for the wedding. While that is still common, the grooms family or even other loved ones may host the event. In all of these cases, it is a nice gesture to include their names on the invitation.
- Include your parents full names with middle names .
- Avoid using initials.
- Write “and” to join the two names if the parents have different last names.

What About Invitations For International Guests
If you’re inviting just a few overseas guests, send their invitations along with the ones for your other guests, but make a point to give them a heads-up. Give them a call or send them an email with the details, as well as information about booking hotel rooms, so they can start to arrange their travel with time to spare.
Does half of your family live abroad? You might want to consider bumping up the timeline for them and the rest of your guests. Start designing your invitations a few weeks early and plan to send them out a minimum of 12 weeks in advance.
Be sure to follow up promptly with anyone you haven’t heard from to make sure they have plenty of time to book their flights.
You will also want to have all of the information available on your wedding website as soon as save-the-dates are in the mail. Sure, it means you’ll have to start ironing out the hotel room block and transportation information sooner than you’d expected, but you’ll be happier in the long run. Those overseas guests will have all the information at their fingertips, and you’ll have even more crossed off of your to-do list.
Enclosure Card Wording And What To Include
Written by Shutterfly Community Last Updated: Mar 11, 2019
When it comes to wedding invitations, its nearly impossible to fit all of your wedding details on the invite. The purpose of an enclosure card is to include those extra details that are important to your big day, while keeping your invitations neat and clean. An enclosure card is a small piece of paper that typically goes inside all of your personalized wedding invitations. It can include reception details, directions, transportation schedules, and any other important information for guests. Enclosure cards prevent confusion on your wedding day by providing guests with special details and instructions that answer their questions ahead of time. Weve provided a helpful guide on enclosure card wording below.

Date And Time Of Ceremony
Of course, confirming the date of your wedding is an absolute must. Avoid latecomers by communicating the time of the ceremony on your invitations. Stating the start time will let guests know how early they need to arrive. Ensure you provide the hour and the time of day so there’s no confusion. On formal invitations, write out the time rather than using numerals .

Do I Need A Reception Card
What is a reception card and do you need one? Reception cards are a traditional way to convey information about the festivities occuring after the wedding ceremony. They are most commonly used for religiously-based ceremonies that take place in a place of worship with the reception taking place at a separate location afterward. They can also be used for non-religious ceremonies taking place at a different location from the reception.
Do you need a new card for this? It depends. Reception cards are traditional and the most etiquette correct way to inform your guests that the festivities after the wedding will take place at a new location. If you feel strongly about using the most appropriate etiquette, then yes. If your invitation card is short on space and you want to keep it looking clean and uncluttered, then yes. If niether of these are a concern, then this information can typically be conveyed on the invitation.
Extra Information About Venue
If you’re getting married in a unique venue or somewhere your guests may not be familiar with, it’s useful to include an insert with extra information. Instructions around parking, for example, can be extremely helpful to guests who’ve never seen your wedding venue. Other ideas include a custom map of the area to show where your ceremony and reception are in relation to each other or a list of things your guests can do leading up to your nuptials. Your guests will be grateful to know all of this ahead of time, and you’ll dodge any unnecessary questions. Win-win!

What Information Goes On A Wedding Insert Card
Like we said, anything out of the ordinary should go on an insert card or details card. Some common information we see included on details cards is:
Wedding Website Address
Wedding Accommodations or Hotel Room Block Information
Transportation Information
Parking or Driving Information
Some people like to include their favorite love quotes, poems, or other fun inserts it doesnt have to be purely informational! Of course, map inserts are fun too, and we have a post all about Invitation Maps here!

What To Include In A Map & Directions Card
For a directions card, include the complete address of the venue or location, then write out the step-by-step driving directions for your guest to follow. Make sure that no matter which direction your guests are traveling, they will be able to make it on time. You may choose to include two sets of directions for guests coming from the east and guests driving from the west, for example.
If you choose to include a paper map, it is a great way to inform your guests of the surrounding neighborhood, especially helpful for your out-of-town family and friends. You may want to include great restaurants, hotels to stay at, shopping centers, or any other places that interest you.
Details Cards You Probably Don’t Need
Attire Cards
If your wedding venue requires a strict dress code other than simply black-tie or cocktail attire, you may wish to include an attire card. This is especially important in the case where couples are married on military bases and a strict dress code is required for admittance.
What to Include: Brief attire suggestions, such as lawn-appropriate shoes or beach-casual.
What Not to Include: A long list of what they should not wear or too many attire suggestions. Keep it short and sweet by including only necessary details.
Ways to Save: You can skip this card by including all details on your wedding website. You may also notate black-tie or cocktail attire in the lower right hand corner of your invitation.
Registry Inserts
Traditional wedding etiquette states that you do not include wedding registry details on any of your wedding stationery. However, many brides may consider it necessary to share this information with loved ones, and for the most part, I agreethis insert can be especially useful for long-distance family and friends.
What to Include: Only list 2-3 stores that you are registered at.
What Not to Include: Any other information outside of your registry details, such as asking for monetary gifts or certain items off your registry.
Ways to Save: Skip this card and include wedding registry details on your website.

All About The Environment
If you are an environmentally friendly couple, why not send out a simple business card with the URL of your wedding website, on which all of the above information can be found! Supplement this with your phone number and that of the Best Man or the Maid of Honour, so that your guests can ask any additional questions!
Done!
Final Tip: You dont have to splurge out on expensive quality paper for the information sheet, just print one at home on nice paper and save some pennies!
Who Gets Wedding Details Cards
Whoever is getting an invite to your big day should get a wedding details card. After you send out your save the dates, your formal wedding invitations should be mailed to your guest list about three to six months before your wedding date. If youre having a destination event, send out your wedding invites earlier so that guests can make travel plans, and aim for six to nine months out.
The reason why its important to send all guests wedding details cards is that you want to ensure that everyone is on the same page. By clearly communicating the 411, you and your partner can spend more time organizing the wedding details, and less time responding to the same wedding guest questions. Which brings us to our next point.
