A New Orleans-Inspired Garden Wedding in Florida | Martha Stewart Weddings

Ashley and Scott chose to bring me along as their New Orleans wedding photographer while they planned their wedding from out of state. These two met living in New Orleans but now live in Utah. When I showed up to photograph the bride/bridesmaid side they had all just gotten back from a trip to the local pub because they finished hair and makeup an hour early! That never happens! But this couple was so laid back, easy going, and focused on their community they surrounded themselves with.

The ceremony was outdoors at the botanical gardens as the sun set. They exchanged vows and belly laughs as they said their I dos and the evening was perfect.

What Is The Cost

Please call City Park Sales at 488-2896 for information on any permits required. There are certain areas of the park that may be rented for larger private ceremonies and will allow you to bring chairs. Any public areas of the park will not allow chairs to be setup.

Alternatively, your wedding or elopement planner can handle much of these kinds of details so you dont get bogged down. Often City Park will work alongside wedding planners to facilitate on-site catering and other services, but this will of course add to the cost. Your planner can put together a package for you that saves you the most money while giving you the ceremony of a lifetime.

Up to 20 guests. If larger than 20 guests, City Park will require one of their larger spaces to be rented, rates vary.

There are many large open areas in City Park that are perfect for photography backdrops. The oak trees, cobblestone bridges, fountain areas are all amazing locations for additional photography opportunities.

It was one of those super overcast and misty fall days in New Orleans, but that didn’t stop us from having a magical evening photographing Abby & Damian. The New Orleans Botanical Gardens is by far one of my favorite locations in the city, as well as offering a variety backdrops full of greenery and whimsy it is located in City Park that is also a great additional location AND has Cafe’ Du Monde!

S: Planning And Construction

The New Orleans Botanical Garden City Park, , was unveiled in 1936, as a part of the massive restructuring and development project of City Park that took place in the 1930s. Although development plans for the new City Park were originally chosen in 1930, it was not until the mid-1930s that funding came from the Works Progress Administration, which administered the $12 million project that employed nearly 20,000 workers in New Orleans City Park.

Design and construction was overseen by three innovators: Architect Richard Koch, Landscape Architect William Wierdorn, and Sculptor Enrique AlfÃ©rez. Together, the three artists designed the Gardens in the style of the widely popular “art-deco” era of the 1930s, constructing the clearly defined and elaborate grounds that would come to be New Orleans’ first public classical garden. Using a combination of natural landscape, historic architecture, and surreal artwork, the garden was intended to be a place where families from all around New Orleans could enjoy the City Park.

A lovely site for a wedding! My niece chose a large oak tree for her wedding location with a large lawn leading to it. Her reception was around a beautiful lily pond and gardens. The park staff who served the hors’doerves were very hospitable. Food was awesome for finger foods!

We visited the City Park to attend the Greek Festival this past Memorial Day weekend while in New Orleans! The park is huge! Lots of space for family gatherings and other events that do not clash!

New Orleans’ City Park is a large, green space containing a terrific Art Gallery , a lovely Botanical Gardens, and a fantastic Sculpture Garden. You can get there easily as it is the end of the line for the Canal Street trolley. Lovely way to spend an afternoon!

There was a concert held at the park during the week of the festivities and it was free. The park is beautiful and was lit up nice and bright! The music was awesome as well as the people and food.

We were in New Orleans for a 2 week stay and my son loved this park so much we came back for a second visit. The park/play area was great, we all loved the sculpture garden, I thought the botanical gardens were lovely but over priced. Sadly we didn’t have enough time to see the whole park. Its well worth a trip.

Lord & Taylor Rose Garden

Occupying the mid-northern section of the Botanical Gardens is the Lord & Taylor Rose Garden, also called the Parterre. The first path leads to a rectangular area with separate sections for housing the various roses both antique and modern. The rosarian, Abedalhadi Mousa, is responsible for many daily activities of maintenance including deadheading, or clipping off the blackened and dried ends of the rose bushes with his pruning shears and throwing them into a large plastic bin. He clips off the wilting roses also, removing the whites, pinks, and reds that sprinkle the green landscape. The premises are scattered with such volunteers and workers, characterized by their straw gardening hats that signify their expertise with the plants around them. These employees both take care of the foliage as well as assist onlookers, directing them to such sources of information as the Dial and Discover service.

New Orleans Botanical Gardens Wedding

Hannah & Charlie were married on March 23rd, with a ceremony and reception at the New Orleans Botanical Gardens in New Orleans, La.

One of the things that impressed me the most about this wedding was the way that Hannah and Charlie made everyone at the wedding feel loved and appreciated while maintaining a laid-back, no-drama approach to their celebrations. Right at the start of the day, as I photographed Hannah getting ready at her parents home, I could see how much family and friends meant as she listened to stories from best friends and her sister while on the back porch in matching pajamas. The mother-of-the-bride gave a moving speech about what her family means to her and then put away a few stray dishes before heading out with her family to the ceremony. Theres nothing better than getting ready for the next part of your life in the home you grew up in.

I was incredibly touched by the raw emotion that Hannah and Charlie allowed themselves to show. Friends continued to be a constant in the day with the flowers created by a good friend, a signature drink handed out by friends and another good friend providing music at the start of the ceremony. Charlie even came ready to make a martini for his new bride moments after they said I do.

Where Can I Marry In City Park

City Park is open all year round, each day starting 30 minutes before sunrise and closing 30 minutes after sunset, barring special events. This is perfect for most wedding and elopement needs, because we recommend holding your ceremony or photoshoots just after sunrise or within two hours of sunset, for the best possible lighting. Post covid-19, the park is issuing permits to marry at Butler Fountain with a permit fee of $250.

How Do We Get To City Park New Orleans

Its truly hard to miss City Park, its a massive attraction in the heart of New Orleans even larger than Central Park! That being said, it might be hard to find for anyone who is not familiar with the city and needs just a bit of guidance getting there.

Probably the easiest way to get there from the French Quarter, is to travel north from Louis Armstrong Park until you hit Esplanade Avenue, which is a main street running through the bulk of the city. If you turn left on Esplanade Avenue and head Northwest, you will wind up right in the middle of City Park.

New Orleans is an extremely easy to travel city, so keep on the lookout for signage that will point you in the right direction.

Popp Fountain And Arbor Room

This 60-foot-wide fountain is a gem of City Park. The late sculptor Enrique Alferez created the fountains centerpiece: a bronze sculpture of leaping dolphins that releases a 30-foot spray that makes a dramatic backdrop for any wedding photo. And of course, since youre in the park you have the benefit of being surrounded by a landscape of oaks, magnolias, crepe myrtles, and more. If you want to take things inside, the adjacent Arbor Room has a chic, modern design by Waggonner and Ball Architects.

Although the French Quarter has no dearth of beautiful courtyards, very few of them are rain-proof. However, the brick courtyard at Hotel Mazarin is a safe rain-or-shine destination, thanks to a retractable canopy that tops the fifth-floor tree canopies and admits so much light that guests wont even know it has been deployed, according to catering director Rachel Olavarrieta. The venue accommodates up to 150 guests, and either the fountain or the arched windows can serve as photogenic ceremony backdrops. Couples seeking a simpler experience can opt for a balcony elopement package, which includes a two-tiered cake, Champagne, a bouquet and boutonnière, and an officiant.

Since Britt and Em had a New Orleans Botanical Garden wedding, plants featured prominently in their photography. The images have a soft, earthy palette that feels just right for them. In such an elegant moment, Britt and Em still felt connected to each other and to the place.

Britt and Ems New Orleans Botanical Garden wedding felt grounded in their enduring love. They celebrated their marriage with a small group of family and friends surrounded by flowers, succulents, and rain that ended up adding to the days cozy atmosphere.

A Moving New Orleans Botanical Garden Wedding

Britt and Em chose only to have immediate family present for their New Orleans Botanical Garden wedding ceremony. While they exchanged vows, it rained lightly. Instead of being a nuisance, it felt like a little blessing from the earth. The whole ceremony felt meaningful, intimate, and grounded in a way that few weddings are in New Orleans, a city known for rowdy parties.

As the ceremony wrapped up, the rain started falling in earnest. Britt, Em, and their family moved from the oak tree into the conservatory where they were joined by more friends and family. No one minded the rain as they enjoyed each others company in the cozy conservatory. Dont get me wrong. Britt and Ems guests could party as well as any New Orleans crowd! This wedding felt special, though, because it was on such an intimate scale in a setting that invited people to spend time really connecting.
