Mother Of The Bride Or Groom

As the mother of the bride or groom, your dress choice for a barn wedding will often depend on how glam the wedding party decides to go.

We love the elegant length here and the sequined embroidery for more resort-like settings, mixed with comfortable details like a boat neckline and cap sleeves for comfort.

This ensemble is our favorite look for a mother of the bride or groom. Its a look that works beautifully for any barn wedding and in any weather!

The sheath dress with its pretty beaded neckline is available in any color you choose and in various sizes.

Overtop, you have a lace jacket for a truly sophisticated look, and youll be at your most comfortable wearing an elegant pair of low wedge shoes.

Think About Function In Addition To Style

A barn wedding is likely going to have natural elements mixed into the decor and part of the wedding might even be outside on the grass, so you’ll want to think about that when you’re choosing an outfit. “When dressing for an outdoor barn wedding, function is as important as style,” says Sarah Horton, brand director at Show Me Your Mumu. “Rustic settings often allow guests to embrace a casual elegance with shorter hemlines, and less heavy textured looks like beading.”

What Never To Wear To A Wedding

Jeans, Hats, Non-Collared Shirts

The standard rules of being well-dressed for a wedding still apply, so just like a restaurant or private club, the warning of ripped jeans, baseball hats, and non-collared shirts aren’t appropriate –unless it’s at the request of the couple that you dress down.

White or Off-White

Please don’t wear white or off-white dresses or anything that could perhaps photograph as white. Head- to-toe white suits or jumpsuits are also off-limits, too. Pale pastels like the palest blues, greens, yellows, grays, nudes and blushes all have a tendency to look lighter than they are in photos. A white wrap or sweater to throw on if you get chilly is generally fine, especially if it’s after the ceremony. Prints with some white elements are ok but just be sure the colors are much more predominant than any white background. We wrote a whole post about wearing white to a wedding, but we’re sure you get it — please, just don’t!

Anything Too Revealing or Too Short

And of course, don’t wear anything too short or revealing, and don’t look unkempt or wrinkled. If you have to fight with your outfit to keep parts of your body you’d rather not show, it might not be the right choice.

First Things First: Whats The Barn Wedding Theme

Brad Matthews

Lets make one thing clear right now: not all barn weddings are created equal.

Some couples can turn a barn venue into a posh, elegant space. Others go for a more boho vibe with a rustic-chic feel. And some go full-on country western.

The point is this:

Just because its taking place in a barn doesnt mean its a casual affair.

Don’t assume it’s a semi-formal event just because there’s a chicken coop at the wedding venue. Oftentimes, country weddings are just as dressy and formal as traditional ones.If the invite doesn’t specify a dress code, check with the bride or groom to figure out the right wedding attire. When in doubt, wear something that’s easy and breezy, not stuffy and stiff. Leave your favorite satin sheath dress in the closet and opt for something in flowy chiffon instead.

What Do You Wear To A Country Wedding

Dressy casual or semi-formal is the typical dress code for country weddings. This means that you dont need to wear a suit and tie or ball gowns as with other weddings.

Some outfits to consider for wedding guests to a country wedding include a buttoned shirt with khakis or a nice blouse and skirt. You can also check the venue for inspiration of whats appropriate to wear.

You can also read what to wear to a desert wedding if the couple wants such a location for their country wedding. Nevertheless, dont hesitate to ask someone from the wedding party if youre unsure of the ideal wedding guest attire.

What To Wear To A Fall Wedding At A Place Of Worship

Guests attending a wedding at a church or another place of worship should be respectful with their outfit choices no matter the season. Feel free to play around with some of the brighter fall colors like marigold and fuchsia, but keep modesty in mind as you do it. Depending on the religion or culture, you might want to avoid off-the-shoulder styles, plunging necklines, and skirts that could be considered too short. Instead, stick with pants or a flowy skirt that falls below the knee. Its also a great idea to invest in a nice coverup. That way, you can conceal a strapless or off-the-shoulder look until after the ceremony.

Find The Right Length

Bella Nashville/Frozen Exposure Photography

Traditionally, long dresses are reserved for more formal weddings. While that’s still the case, there are some ways to get around that old, tired concept.

It’s true – you shouldn’t wear a mini dress to a formal event. But you CAN wear a maxi dress to a casual affair, as long as it’s the right one.If you love wearing mini dresses, look for a pretty lace texture or a flowy A-line silhouette. Don’t do a sexy bodycon dress or a tight look with jewels and beading – save that for a night at the club.Midi dresses are ideal. You can do a simple sheath if you want to look chic or go for a breezy A-line silhouette if you want a softer feel.

And even if the wedding is casual, you can still wear a maxi dress. There’s no need for a sexy mermaid gown with a train that’s going to drag across the barn floor all night. But a pretty, floral print maxi that hits at the ankle is usually perfect.

What Should The Groom Wear For A Rustic Wedding

From the ultimate formal to vintage and even casual. The degree of formality will determine what you pair the vests with, however, for a rustic look, most grooms prefer a lovely pair of blue jeans. Consider a plaid vest or any other patterned fabric of your choice for texture, worn with a collared shirt.

Rustic Wedding Guest Attire For Men

SEXY SHEER MESH DRESS | Beautiful, Rustic Fall Barn Wedding | Surprise wedding dance | Latex Boots

Of course, it’s not just women wondering what to wear to a wedding! Men’s attire for a rustic wedding can range from the casual hats, vests, jeans and cowboy boots to suits and jackets. Just like what you’d wear to any other outdoor or partially outdoor wedding event! Cotton, linen or tweed jackets or suits in medium colors are a good choice.

A nice matching vest and pants worn in suiting material worn with a nice shirt can be a good choice too. Bow ties and even suspenders, if you wear them, also add a nice ‘rustic’ style.

If you have the feeling ties are not needed at the event you are attending, just a blazer in cotton, wool or a pattern with good pants is also an option. Here are some ideas for getting that rustic wedding guest style for guys!

When Charmaine of Rustic Folk Weddings kindly asked me to guest post, it leads me to think more about appropriate attire for outdoor or other country-style weddings, which could include a backyard wedding in a rural setting, or a barn wedding.

To A Black Tie Optional Fall Wedding

One way to stand out in the sea of formal gowns and cocktail dresses is to incorporate a dramatic accent like feathers. “Feathers are a fun trend I like to pair with classic Manolo Blahnik heels,” advises designer Pia Arrobio. Though they can be a bold embellishment, we love them on the hem of a timeless little black dressfor example, the way they’re accenting this Alberta Ferretti sheath. This will definitely let your Manolos get some shine. And you can wear your hair down or in an updo as the focal point is all about your curves and legs.

When it comes to weddings, I usually like to stay on the side of making more of an effort rather than less. It feels a little more courteous to the couple, and the extra energy you are putting in goes a long way to show how special and important you acknowledge the day to be, explains fashion stylist Anita Pattrickson. According to Patrickson, short dresses are discouraged, and you should stick with at least a midi-length dress.

Grotts also suggests cocktail attire for a black-tie optional wedding. Cocktail attire works for women, and a dark suit works for men, she says. Grotts further explains that black-tie optional is not always clearly defined, but if you read between the lines, it generally means that the host will be wearing a tux, and they hope that their guests will as well, but it is not a requirement.
