I asked what else she needed to buy to start up.

Sarah knew that just buying dresses wasn’t enough. She needed to get organized and make a list of things she would need to buy.

Choose a variety of sizes but concentrate on the average sizes which are 8-16 and average height 5’4-5’7. To begin with, you don’t need to have a huge stock. A bride who selected the dress will know that dress intimately and can tell you everything you want to know.

I also use Craigslist and other free ad sites and check the local newspaper and the notice board at the grocery store. The best time to find a bargain is just after the end of summer when the wedding season is slowing down. If you wait until Spring, the prices go up.

What Vanessa Was Doing Before And How She Became Successfully Unemployed

Vanessa worked in marketing, right before she started Avancy Bridal. It wasnt a matter of if she would work in the bridal industry, it was when. She knew she had a huge passion for it, but people just thought she had an obsession with getting married. She got married and the obsession didnt go away.

When she went to school, Vanessa thought she wanted to be an orthodontist, because her version of success and her mothers version of success for her were completely different.

When she was in high school Vanessa asked if she could major in wedding planning, but that didnt exist.

Vanessa eventually chose advertising and public relations, because she utilizes those skills every day in her business.

After school, she worked in casino marketing for a few years, and it was fantastic. But, the creativity, sparkle, and pizazz that comes with weddings was missing. She then worked with a wedding planner, but she learned how not to run a business rather than how to run a successful business.

When Vanessa and her husband decided they wanted to travel, she decided it would be a good time to find a side hustle to make money and fuel her love for love. She got two part-time jobs, and for one she worked for a very well known videographer in Arizona.

On weekends, her days were filled with weddings, flowers, dresses, and brides and it gave so much life, because it energized her for the week.

How not to start a bridal shop

A few weeks ago, I found my business, Miss Bush, being tagged on Instagram by one of my retail friends in the north. Helen, owner of Lulu Browns, was rightly aghast and shocked that a start-up bridal boutique had secretly shopped her store. This geographically close competitor was not only wasting her time and that of her staff, but also started a peer relationship based on mistrust, deceit and downright hostility.
