What To Wear To A Cold Wedding

Staying Warm And Being Stylish Aren’t Mutually Exclusive

3 Tips for What to Wear to a Winter Wedding – Fashion Cents

It’s time to break out your winter best, says Heather Dwight, the owner of Denver-based : “In Colorado it’s not uncommon for our guests to have outdoor winter weddings in all types of weather. We recommend wearing your most stylish coat, gloves, hat and scarf.” Alicia Fritz, owner of A Day In May Events, advises sticking to a few key fabrics when sourcing these garments-namely wool. “A long tweed skirt with a cashmere sweater and a great pump make a wonderful winter wedding outfit,” she says. Alternatively, pop a tweed coat over a slip dress for a slinky ensemble.

Just because something’s warm, however, doesn’t mean that you should wear it, notes Emily Campbell of Bella Design & Planning. “Ski gear definitely doesn’t fit the dress code, so leave that at home,” she says. This holds true even if the couple really is getting hitched on the slopes.

Alternative Outfit To Wear To A Wedding

My original plan was to wear this dress, but with the cold weather, no wayyy. I dont care if Ill be outside for only a split second. So I had to come up with something else. And thats when I figured out what to wear to a wedding when it is cold out. It is something I already love to wear. And that is a jumpsuit!

I agree that wearing a jumpsuit to a wedding is unconventional, but jumpsuits have come a long way. There are so many different styles out there now that some are too fancy to wear on a normal day.

On my hunt to find the perfect outfit, I came across this lace jumpsuit. Anything lacey already screams wedding to me. I immediately added it to my shopping cart and problem solved. I will not be cold! I also love that the colors are lavender and peach. It has a Springy feel to it.

I also have a fear when I attend a wedding as a guest that my dress will look too similar to the bridesmaids. I know it sounds silly, but I dont want to be mistaken for one. Wearing a jumpsuit will guarantee that no bridesmaid will have something similar on.

Before you start shopping, it’s important to know the etiquette behind what to wear to a winter wedding. Winter wedding outfits should be fit for the occasionthe weather and the dress code of the event should both help dictate what you wear. An upscale evening winter wedding will require a formal outfit, while a casual look is acceptable for a less formal daytime event.

When browsing winter wedding guest dresses, don’t forget to shop practically. While you might want to wear a slinky mini dress or an off-the-shoulder gown, consider how the weather might affect your fashion choices. A cozy wrap or shawl can easily winterize a look while keeping you warm, so consider investing in a coverup for all of your winter events. Fabric and color are also two important components of your winter wedding guest outfit. Deep jewel tones and rich fabrics like velvet and satin are great choices for weddings in cooler months. And when it comes to length, more fabric may help you stay warm, but don’t count out sleeveless outfits altogether. If you love to spend time on the dance floor or mingling with other guests, you might be more comfortable in a short-sleeve or sleeveless option.

If Youre A Top Table Guest

So, youve negotiated your way on to the top table: unless the bride or groom is friendless, youre golden in their eyes. Return their respect by not showing up in anything alarming: its not your time to shine. Wear black, and you risk competing with the main man, choose navy instead to keep the formality dialled up and the attention-grabbing antics dialled down. A white shirt and black shoes will again do the trick, but a lighter tie and pocket square in a similar hue will distinguish you from the groom while keeping you on the straight and narrow. Of course, the wedding party may have an outfit prescribed for them. If so, just do what youre told.

What Is Cocktail Attire Dress Code

At its simplest, cocktail attire means that you should wear a suit in dark colours, ideally navy or charcoal, with a white shirt, a pair of black leather dress shoes, and a tie. You can divert from this template only if the invitation explicitly calls for it.

Keeping this in consideration, What do you wear with a cocktail dress when its cold?

A three-quarter sleeve jacket will go well with your cocktail dress. You do not have to settle for only plain jackets as other options could suffice. Leopard print or a jacket decorated with rhinestones will add that extra touch you need to stand out in any gathering. A leather jacket will also look really good.

Secondly What is considered cocktail attire for a woman? In addition to a traditional cocktail dress, women can also wear dressy suits or nice jumpsuits paired with heels or formal flats. All experts agree: a suit and tie are required for cocktail attire.

What does cocktail attire mean for a woman?

Cocktail attire describes an outfit that is appropriate to wear to parties and other semi-formal events. For women, that typically means dresses and heels, but it absolutely doesnt have to. A cocktail attire dress code calls for something different from what youd wear to super formal, black-tie affairs.

What To Wear To A Winter Wedding When The Cold Hits

Ah, weddings. Such a whimsical, elegant affair. Also, perhaps unfortunately, NOT the place to pull a sweatshirt over your head.

Beauty cant keep you warm, its sad but trueand even if a wedding falls in the middle of winter, youre expected to dress to a certain standard no matter how cold you get. That makes it important to dress right in the first place. Otherwise youll be left shivering in the middle of the dance floor while everyone else busts their moves around you, just trying to soak up some of that priceless body heat.

Of course, men will be just fine in their suits in fact, they probably suffer in summer as much as women suffer in winter. Well, fair is fair, and I guess its our turn now. At least we get to try out our different favorite styles while theyre stuck wearing the same thing all year round

But fear not these winter wedding outfit ideas can go the extra mile of warmth.

What Never To Wear To A Wedding

What to Wear to A Wedding When It Is Cold Out
    Jeans, Hats, Non-Collared Shirts

The standard rules of being well-dressed for a wedding still apply, so just like a restaurant or private club, the warning of ripped jeans, baseball hats, and non-collared shirts aren’t appropriate –unless it’s at the request of the couple that you dress down.

    White or Off-White

Please don’t wear white or off-white dresses or anything that could perhaps photograph as white. Head- to-toe white suits or jumpsuits are also off-limits, too. Pale pastels like the palest blues, greens, yellows, grays, nudes and blushes all have a tendency to look lighter than they are in photos. A white wrap or sweater to throw on if you get chilly is generally fine, especially if it’s after the ceremony. Prints with some white elements are ok but just be sure the colors are much more predominant than any white background. We wrote a whole post about wearing white to a wedding, but we’re sure you get it — please, just don’t!

Anything Too Revealing or Too Short

And of course, don’t wear anything too short or revealing, and don’t look unkempt or wrinkled. If you have to fight with your outfit to keep parts of your body you’d rather not show, it might not be the right choice.

    If Youre A Daytime Guest

Daytime guests have the hardest job dressing for a wedding, even more so than the bride. No, really. Youve got to go formal , but there are no solid restrictions on colours, fabrics or shapes. To make your life easier, a suit in navy, grey or taupe are the best winter-ready option, and you can add some check, pinstripe or a double-breasted silhouette too. On footwear, brown shoes will work perfectly well with all of the above suits and are less formal than black Classic shirt and tie combinations are obviously a safe bet still, but for a more modern look try and grandad collar shirt and a pocket square to liven things up a little but only if the wedding is on the casual end of the spectrum.
