Jo & Jeren are a magnetic couple who can radiate a room with their sweet smiles! They were married this past October at an iconic Southern California wedding venue, Ole Hanson Beach Club. Full of history, Ole Hanson is an all-white Stucco building nestled on a cliff surrounded by dozens of palm trees. The ceremony and reception locations have the most incredible views overlooking the Pacific. Their wedding party wore many shades of blue that perfectly complimented the natural elements in the sky and ocean.
Geoff and I traveled a few hours south to San Clemente for this warm fall day and had the best weekend celebrating this phenomenal couple. Jo & Jeren have been together for many years seen each other through pharmacy school, medical school, and most recently, moved across the country together for Jerens residency. Their wedding was a beautiful reflection of their love and the many chapters of life they have been through together.

Boho Ole Hanson Beach Club Wedding
They flew out to sunny Southern CA from their NYC apartment to take their engagement pics with me. And, they brought In-N-Out. I knew I was sold on em in that moment. Actually, I knew I was sold on em during our first phone call. Brookes mom had posted on Facebook a month or two earlier asking for venue recommendations. So, what did I do? I messaged her + Brooke with a list of my favorite Southern California venues. They booked Ole Hanson Beach Club and then *boom* we were on the phone. A conversation here, a conversation there, and we were eating In-N-Out together on the side of a hiking trail in Trabuco Canyon.
For their wedding, we started out with getting ready photos at Brookes parents house and Monarch Beach Resort. Brooke + her bridesmaids wore matching Friends tank tops, and we allllll know that Im all about that. Brookes groomsmen and groomswomen helped him pick out his tie ~15 minutes before he had to leave for his first look. True Joe fashion. Disclaimer: he picked well.

The City Of San Clemente
San Clemente is a popular city in Orange County which has transformed this part of Southern California over the past century. It has begun and evolved differently than most neighboring communities. A blend of foresight and personality, together with some luck and marketing savvy renewed the land. The small towns geographical isolation has managed to protect the distinctive San Clemente charm from the almost indistinguishable urban sprawl permeating the region.
The city was part of a master plan amid the very first communities in the United States that were built from open land. Ole Hanson laid out an expansive plan prior to fabricating the structure on the rolling coastal hills. It was based on the Spanish Colonial architectural style embodied by restaurants, residences, public parks, a clubhouse, a public pool, fishing pier, and equestrian trails.
Continuous development lead to a boom in population as more and more people are attracted to San Clemente City. The 80-year-old community now ranks among the most beautiful places you can be in Southern California.
Woman Getting Married Says
This venue was closed for renovations and was recently re-opened by the caterer 24 Carrots. And while its not BYOB anymore, we dried our tears pretty quickly when we found out it was 24 Carrots, who also added a bunch of furniture rentals to the list of items included in the facility fee which werent there before. They are one of our faves and are definitely great for working within your budget.
I still say if youre looking for a budget beachfront wedding venue in Orange County with both inside/outside options, the Ole Hanson Beach Club should definitely be on your list. Its rare to find a beachfront wedding venue that ALSO has a rain option, which is why we love this space. I think you would definitely want to do some fun DIY decorations to give the space a bit of personality, or splurge on an event designer or amazing florist who can take it to the next level. I would also not skimp on the photographer, who can make the venue look even more amazing than it is with the right shots/lighting.

Bridal Suite And Grooms Parlor Details
There is a small Bridal Suite for the bride to hide away yet still catch a glimpse of the ceremony location if need be and grooms the parlor can be held in the Eastern Terrace to avoid any interaction before the big reveal. Ole Hanson Beach Club Wedding Venue is also a beautiful location for a sneak peek before the ceremony starts. It offers a ton of unique locations like the iconic Spanish tiled stairwell, or front porch. Both are perfect spots for bridal portraits as well!
History Of Ole Hanson Beach Club
The founder of the city of San Clemente, Ole Hanson, was an American politician who established the public beach club in 1928. Called the Spanish Village by the Sea, the club underwent a massive renovation in 2014 to preserve the architecture and integrity of the building, and reopened to the public in 2016.

Good Ole Hanson Beach Club.
This place is adorable, the views are incredible, and when youre dining with good drinks, great food, and loved company, I dont know that it could get much better than this.
Ole Hanson Beach Club is a San Clemente Venue that sits right on the Pacific Ocean shores. And aside from the views, what I love most about the venue is its historic Spanish style white stucco, clay tile roof, traditional arches, and hand-painted tiles are my favorite.
Wildflower wedding florals are IN and I am here for it. The florals for this day were so sweet and simple, yet far from plain. There were gorgeous large blooms of white roses and daisies, paired with dainty pops of purple and blue florals.
So I may have fibbed earlier, I think my favorite feature about Ole Hanson Beach Club is that its just a few steps from ocean. We obviously couldnt pass up the opportunity to take our shoes off and get our feet a little sandy while we were there.

The Perfect Community Center In San Clemente
The Ole Hanson Beach Club is a community center owned and run by the City of San Clemente. The original facility was built in 1928 and has undergone major renovation since then. Ole Hanson was one of the founders of San Clemente. When you rent out the event center at Ole Hanson, a city crew do the setting up and breaking down for your celebration. The lawns are perfectly manicured, and has two patios with Pacific Ocean views. When the facility is rented out, the use of chairs and tables is included. The Ole Hanson Beach Club accommodates up to 175 guests. Maintenance employees from the City will be on hand for assistance with the setting up and tearing down of your special occasion.

Like most 2020 couples, Annika & Cam were newly engaged but without many options for their wedding due to the pandemic. Not wanting to delay their wedding any longer, Annika and Cam decided to have an intimate wedding at the Ole Hanson Beach Club. They celebrated with their immediate family and closest friends along the beautiful California coast. It was such an honor to be their wedding photographer at the Ole Hanson Beach Club in beautiful San Clemente.
With a much smaller guest list than they originally planned, Annika and Cam wondered what they could do at their wedding to make it fun and also encourage their guests to interact with each other. They came up with the most fun idea A MURDER MYSTERY! The unique idea brought so many laughs and an element of fun to their wedding as their guests got swept up into getting into character. Many took up accents and large personalities as the night continued. Annika & Cam even had special money printed up with their faces on it so their guests could bribe each other for info.
Emilee at Tasteful Tatters is incredible and brought all of Annikas ideas for her wedding to life. Their wedding was full of unique activities, tropical decor, and fun, joyful vibes of all who attended. For these reasons their wedding became my absolute favorite from this summer.

Ole Hanson Beach Club in San Clemente is the epitome of an authentic Southern California beach experience. Wrapped in beautiful history and breathtaking ocean views, the famous coastal landmark makes for the perfect venue to hold a seaside wedding and other special events.
Primary construction of the Ole Hanson Beach Club dates back in 1928. The City initiated the repair of the two-story public facility with the building and adjoining public pool requiring structural rehabilitation. The process involved floor plan optimization, along with the addition of an elevator while altogether maintaining the historic architecture.
As the building and pool were exposed, there were several construction and code deficiencies uncovered. Some items which had to be restored and corrected included the structures double slab foundations. The first floor had insufficient footings that had to be redesigned and replaced.
Right below the existing pool was a secondary pool which likewise needed redesigning and entailed additional demolition to be performed. A substantial amount of damage was discovered throughout the building, as well as the parapet walls, under roof tiles, and on the second floor decks. The work was finally completed by late 2016 into one of the grandest places to hold a solemn wedding or private party.

There is plentiful street parking in the cul de sac surrounding the venue. Guests may also park in the public parking lot located around the sides of the building and bordering the beach. Valet parking is available to host through the venue as well.

Your wedding at Ole Hanson Beach Club comes with a variety of amenities, such as Chiavari Fruitwood chairs, round cocktail tables, a sweetheart table, two wooden bars, white folding ceremony chairs, and even a security guard for the duration of your event.

Ole Hanson Beach Club can accommodate a total of 170 guests for your ceremony and reception. For only a cocktail style reception, up to 225 guests may attend.
Where can I host cocktail hour?
The East Terrace, located just outside the Main Room, is the perfect place for an outdoor cocktail hour. Guests merely need to walk up a beautiful tiled staircase to reach the private patio, which can be set up with bars, cocktail tables, and even lounge seating.

Linens and additional furniture rentals are available through 24 Carrots, including canopy tents, full-size patio heaters, and large ivory garden umbrellas, to name a few.
Details On The Grounds
This venue stands out along the glistening coastline of the Pacific Ocean. Its large, green, Grand Lawn, and the historic old Magnolia tree is eye-catching compared to other locations in the area. You can feel the history the second you step on the property. The white stucco, hand-painted tile, and red roof pop against the green grass and blue skies of the California Coastline and the Pacific Ocean. There are a lot of beautiful spaces to note on the premises but the venue itself is on the cozy and humble side.

Performers such as Duke Ellington, Dorothy Dandridge and George Shearing were part of the Garden Concert series. In 1967, The Four Tops, James Brown, Bobby Darin, the Platters and Ray Charles performed at Whispering Lakes.
Due to deteriorating conditions, the clubhouse was torn down in 2010. A temporary clubhouse was brought in while work began on the new facility.

Branton + Briana has a gorgeous sunny Spring wedding at Ole Hanson Beach Club. Their dusty blue and white tones were chosen to compliment the scenic view of the ocean. Everything came together so beautifully. The mother of the bride even pulled off her surprise dove release after the ceremony to the delight of everyone especially the bride as that had been one of her dreams!
Ole Hanson Beach Club holds a special place in my heart. My brother was married there, Ive had friends get married there and I love my little beach town and all things San Clemente and Ole Hanson did a lot of good in developing a culture for this Spanish Village by the Sea.

“For this shoot, we were drawn by the Spanish style details and architecture of the Ole Hanson Beach Club located in the quaint beach town of San Clemente. The venue is Named after Ole Hanson, founder and developer of San Clementes Spanish Village by the Sea, the 1928 Spanish-Revival-style white stucco building features traditional arches, elaborate hand-painted tiles, ornate stain-glass windows, and original crafted wrought iron grillwork. The deep blues, emerald greens and pops of brighter colors in the tile work is what helped us create a fun color palette to go along with the true style of the venue. Terra Cotta plates, menu, hints of gold, and decorative cakes were just some of our favorite, unique, details!”
