Specific Rules When Choosing Images
Please note that these rules are not absolutes, and each image will require some level of judgement.
Rule: Do Not Select Duplicate ShotsDescription: Duplicate shots are identical or nearly identical shots. Unique crops, different angles, different lighting, or unique post production styles are NOT considered duplicate styles. If the subjects have COMPLETELY different expressions , then the shots are not duplicates and should be kept. In contrast, if the subjects have SIMILAR expressions , then they ARE considered duplicate shots. Even with different compositions, if the two images are telling the same story of the same moment, then they should be considered duplicates and only one should be chosen.
Here is an example of shots that we would consider duplicates because even though theyre different compositions, they are telling the same story of the same moment.
Rule: Keep Sequenced Shots
Exception: Dont keep too many sequenced shots of unimportant events. For example, we only need a couple shots of the bridesmaids walking down the aisle and each couple entering the reception during the entrance. We dont need an entire sequence of each. In contrast, we want more of the sequence of the bride walking down the aisle or the groom stripping down during the garter toss.
Rule: Do Not Select Unflattering Images of the Subject
Rule: Pick ONE image from each group of formals
Rule: Be More Lenient with VIPs
Rule: Be Highly Selective with Details/Venue Shots

Do You Tip A Photographer For Family Photos
Family photography really comes in two major forms:
- Studio portraits taken at a local studio, JCPenney, Wal-Mart, etc.
- Candid portraits taken in a natural environment
The studio portraits found in the big box store photography sections do not require tipping. While the rates are usually low for the actual photo session, these studios make a lot more from you through upselling prints. The employees hired at these locations are also being paid a reasonable wage, making tipping unnecessary.
For more candid family photos, this often takes a little more effort from the photographer. Getting families to interact with each other in an organic way is huge, and it translates into the photos for sure.
In this area, we also do not find tipping to be required in any way, but we could see ourselves tipping someone for those types of photos. After subjecting the photographer to all the dad jokes, you might feel the same.
How To Make The Most Of A Wedding Photography Checklist
Because of this, its easy to lose track and forget about a few essential wedding photos. This is why photographers have checklists for the big day.
A wedding photography checklist can prevent those missed moments. Here I created one I wish I had before I started.
This wedding photography checklist is a starting point. New photographers shouldnt feel like they cant go above and beyond the wedding photos on the list.
Otherwise, the tool can become stifling.

Poses For Groom And Bride
Individual poses are necessary and they start from the dressing room. You can shoot the original expressions of the groom and bride while getting ready and also ask them to pose. It will give you a good number of photos from the beginning.
It is important to set your photography prices on an hourly basis. It will help you to make the plan of capturing more photos as per the number of hours you are selected for the shoot.

Once you are done activating all the addons, you should hit the Publish button. It will show you a shortcode in the Envira Gallery Code widget. Copy this shortcode.

How To Defend Yourself From The Most Common Pitfalls
Editing is an essential element in the development process of contemporary photography and characterizes the style of each photographer. A photographer who does his job with passion will never give you unedited photographs, in the same way that a painter will never give you a painting halfway through his work. Unfortunately, the editing process requires a lot of dedication and time, even more if it has the purpose to be unique for every couple.
As with any other demanding job, however, there are many shortcuts for photographers and as many pitfalls for you customers. Let’s see what they are and how you can defend yourself:
How Do You Decide Whether To Do A First Look Or Wait Until The Ceremony To See Each Other
Whats more important to you, not missing the cocktail hour or him seeing you for the first time as you walk down the aisle?
We dont personally prefer one or the other they are equally valid choices and both beautiful for photography.
First of all, what is a first look? A first look is a mini portrait session held right after the bride has finished getting ready, when the groom sees her for the first time. Usually, couples decide to do a first look instead of waiting to see each other for the first time during the ceremony because of the schedule. If there isnt a lot of time between the ceremony and reception for portraits, or if you dont want to miss a single minute of the cocktail hour, its better to do a first look and have portraits taken before the ceremony.
Its nice to choose a picturesque spot in advance for the first look, and possibly recruit some friends or members of the wedding party to help organize it logistically. Just talk to your photographer and he or she will help you with all the details and make sure its one of the most memorable moments of your wedding day.

So How Long Does It Take To Get Wedding Photos Back
Wedding Spot interviewed a handful of experienced wedding photographers to get a better idea of how long it takes to get wedding photos back. Here are their responses:
4-6 weeks depending on the season
4-6 weeks for fully-edited photos
6-8 weeks during wedding season but less during winter months
Between 2 weeks and 2 months, with an average of 4 weeks
4-6 weeks depending on what youve ordered
4-6 weeks on average in the U.S.
1-2 weeks for amateur photographers or 4+ months for luxury photographers
3-5 weeks or longer if you had a lot of guests
2 weeks for an elopement, 4-10 weeks for a full wedding

Wedding Photos: Does Your Photographer Own Them
3 min read
Contrary to what most soon-to-be-newlyweds may think, the wedding photographer owns the legal copyright to the wedding photos they take. This can be disappointing news since many newlyweds would prefer to be able to do whatever they want with their wedding pictures: upload them to Facebook, make a Flipgram to send to Grandma, or even adjust the colors in Photoshop.
Is It Important To Have A Shot List For The Portrait Session
If the portrait session is very important to you, a shot list is helpful. If candids are more important to you, a shot list isnt necessary.
It all depends on your taste, style, and personality. For some of our clients, the family and wedding party portraits are very important, and they prefer to keep things as organized as possible. We have a section on our client questionnaire where brides and grooms can give us a detailed shot list, with all the different portrait combinations that they want.
For other clients, the formal portraits are much less important, and they care much more about the candid photographs. Sometimes they dont give us any shot list at all. This is also completely fine Kyo still takes some formal-style portraits , but he keeps them as quick and relaxed as possible.
If there are any personality conflicts in your family , its a good idea to think in advance how you will arrange the portraits and how to swap people in and out of the pictures without making anyone feel uncomfortable.
We recommend that you find a good friend or relative who can act as portrait session traffic cop, helping to direct people in and out of the pictures. That way you dont have to do the job yourself, and you can be more relaxed knowing that youve put the process in good hands.
