California Officiant Government Registration
We said it before but it bears repeating In California, wedding officiants are not required to register with any government office. The government in California does not impose any officiant registration process whatsoever. At no point in your journey from getting ordained to officiating the wedding ceremony are you required to complete government paperwork confirming your status as a wedding officiant. Once you are an online ordained minister you instantly have the legal ability to perform marriage anywhere in California.
Though there is no legal requirement to prove your standing as an Ordained Minister with any California government office, we do recommend that you keep personal records of your official Ministry Credentials. A physical copy of your Ordination Certification is useful to have in the event that the couple or anyone else affiliated with the wedding asks to see proof of your ordination.
If you choose to get ordained with American Marriage Ministries, consider ordering one of the following packages. In addition to your official ordination certificate you will also receive your AMM Ministers Manual and Asked To Officiate. Both of these books cover all of the important information you need to know regarding your legal duties as a wedding officiant and your ceremonial responsibilities, including how to best prepare for the ceremony.

Texas Statutes 2202 Explained
If this law looks like an indecipherable wall of text, dont worry. Lets focus in on the part that is relevant to you.
The following persons are authorized to conduct a marriage ceremony: a licensed or ordained Christian minister or priest a Jewish rabbi a person who is an officer of a religious organization and who is authorized by the organization to conduct a marriage ceremony
This law allows for people of any religious faith to self actualize their ability to officiate wedding ceremonies. Beyond being articulated in the Texas Statutes, this right is also enshrined in the 1st amendment of the US Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As long as you are a member of any religious institution that grants you the authority to solemnize marriage, you are good to go. So what are you waiting for?

After Every Wedding Follow Up With Your Clients And Ask Them For A Review And Make It As Easy As Possible For Them To Write One
On my website, Ive created my own reviews page where I paste the thank-yous couples send me and any public reviews they end up writing. But its the third-party review spaces have the strongest credibility, so I always ask couples who found me on WeddingWire to review me on WeddingWire, and I send them the WeddingWire review link. For clients who found me via personal referral or another way, I ask them to review me on Google, and I send them the link where they can do that.
I always ask my clients to write a review in one place or the other.
Now the ball is rolling, and its just gonna keep on going. You officiate. So you get photos. Then you get reviews. And you get referred. So you officiate some more. Youre eventually really, really busy. Then youre booked solid. You charge that premium fee. And now you have your own full-time business with great flex hours and a comfortable income.

Find Out How You Can Get Legal To Officiate Weddings
Depending on where you live, if may be easy or difficult. If youre a minister or a judiciary, chances are youre already qualified. If youre not, you have some hoops to jump through with your local government. Some folks go the Universal Life Church route. If thats recognized where you live, go for it. For others, ULC is not recognized by their judiciary so they do something like join a humanist organization. Or they register for a course at a ceremony institute which might be recognized by their local marriage registrar.
You might do what I did: go to seminary for a 3-year graduate degree and spend half a year becoming a licensed minister with clergy status. But thats a lot of time and effort just to officiate weddings. To be honest I kind of stumbled into this. I never thought Id love it so much. I started out doing theology as my vocation and weddings on the side. Now I do weddings as my vocation and theology on the side!
So whichever route you decide to take, dont guess that it will be good enough with your local government.
Before you do it, Id recommend calling your local government office in charge of registering marriages and saying, Im considering doing ______ to become a legal wedding officiant. Will that legally certify me to register marriages here?
Theyll either say yes or no or recommend something.
