What Does The Pastor Say At A Wedding Ceremony

Perform The Wedding Ceremony

How to Start a Wedding Ceremony (What to Say and Do!)

Our ministers perform all different types of weddings from formal and traditional ceremonies to laid-back weddings with fun themes, weve seen it all. Here at the ULC we always encourage creativity, and applaud unique ceremony ideas. However, as minister, you should be familiar with the basic requirements that all ceremonies must meet.

In order for a marriage to be legally binding, the wedding ceremony itself must include two key elements. The first is the Declaration of Intent this is most commonly recognized as the Do you take I do exchange. The second is the Pronouncement, where you will pronounce the couple officially married. While most weddings will involve additional elements, these segments constitute the bare minimum for a legal ceremony. Make sure you cover them!

Planning the wedding ceremony itself is generally left up to the couple, though you may be asked to provide input or advice. If you are officiating a wedding ceremony for close friends or family, your personal knowledge of the couple will likely mean more involvement in the planning stages. Either way, it is important to communicate with the couple to figure out what type of ceremony they want and which elements theyd like included.

An Order For Prayer And Dedication After A Civil Marriage

For Notes, see here.

A hymn may be sung.

The minister may welcome the people and then says

The Lord be with you

All and also with you.

Preface

N and N, you stand in the presence of God as man and wife to dedicate to him your life together, that he may consecrate your marriage and empower you to keep the covenant and promise you have solemnly declared.

[The Bible teaches us that marriage is a gift of God in creation and a means of his grace, a holy mystery in which man and woman become one flesh. It is Gods purpose that, as husband and wife give themselves to each other in love throughout their lives, they shall be united in that love as Christ is united with his Church.

You now wish to affirm your desire to live as followers of Christ, and you have come to him, the fountain of grace, that, strengthened by the prayers of the Church, you may be enabled to fulfil your marriage vows in love and faithfulness.

Let us keep silence and remember Gods presence with us now.

God is love, and those who live in love live in God

and God lives in them.

1 John 4.16

This prayer may be said

All Almighty God,

to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name

through Christ our Lord.

The following Summary of the Law may be said

Our Lord Jesus Christ said:

The first commandment is this:

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord.

Either

Amen.

Have The Wedding Guests Eating Out Of Your Hand In 60 Seconds

You want to put on the biggest celebration the world has ever seen? Its not an issue. But keep in mind that it has practically little to do with the actual text of the wedding ceremony. Take a look at the video above, which is taken from the film The Princess Bride. It is not the words themselves that are unforgettable, but rather the manner in which they were delivered. As a result, the key lies in how you deliver the words during the formal ceremony. Seriously. Because if you dont know how to put on a performance, the words are almost worthless.

  • You need to establish control over the following 15-20 minutes of the wedding day to ensure that you get what you want.
  • Its not the brides fault.
  • Its not the mother-in-fault.
  • The catering company is in charge of the cuisine.
  • The DJ is in charge of the music.
  • Take total responsibility for it.
  • They must also understand that they are only observers.

Here are two simple methods for asserting your ministerial authority: a.

Say hi to a few familiar people when you arrive.

See, the situation is that folks are attending a wedding.

They will be appreciative of your comments and will defer to you when it comes to matters of propriety.

And keep command of the situation.

She may have authored the entire ceremony script, but she wont be able to stop you from making the entire audience fall in love with you.

Make your authority known.

The fact that you are the wedding minister will give you de facto control over the wedding party.

Opening Prayer Or Reading

This reading can take whatever form the couple chooses, though it typically includes a focus on relationships, love, and companionship. If the couple is not religious, poems are a great secular option to feature in this space.

Religious: As the Bible reminds us in Ecclesiastes, Ecclesiastes 4:9: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?”

Secular: What is love? Sooner or later we begin to understand that love is more than verses on valentines and romance in the movies. We begin to know that love is here and now, real and true, the most important thing in our lives. For love is the creator of our favorite memories and the foundation of our fondest dreams. Love is a promise that is always kept, a fortune that can never be spent, a seed that can flourish in even the most unlikely of places. And this radiance that never fades, this mysterious and magical joy, is the greatest treasure of all one known only by those who love. Unknown
