Other Questions To Ask An Official Or Park Ranger On The Phone:
- If you are just taking portraits in the park and not having the ceremony there, is a fee or special use permit required for the photographer to take photos there?
- Are elopements and weddings allowed anywhere in the park or just at select locations?
- How early should you reserve the amphitheater, picnic area, or facilities in advance?
- Does the park have any particular rules or regulations that are not listed directly on their website ?

Make Sure Your Guest Count Is Right For The Park
The second part of choosing the best Virginia state park for your wedding is all about your number of guests. Not all state parks can accommodate large events. They might not have proper infrastructure such as parking for lots of cars, restrooms, or open areas where a big group of people wont damage the land or native habitats the parks are trying to protect. For this reason some parks lend themselves better to elopements or ceremonies with only a handful of guests while others can accommodate over a hundred in designated areas. Your elopement photographer, a local photographer who knows the parks well, or a park ranger should be able to tell you how many guests are reasonable for a particular spot so that you can follow Leave No Trace principles on your wedding day.
Keep in mind that the state parks main priority is not hosting weddings so most of these event spaces that you can rent for weddings with larger guest counts are decorated simply which keeps the environment itself being the main focus! The state parks also dont have time and resources set aside for showcasing past weddings. This is why they encourage you to call, visit the park, tour the spaces, and ask questions onsite. Call ahead to make an appointment to view a venue space so you dont accidentally come on a day it is being used.

A quick and youll find a good amount of venues in within the region.
From barns, hotels, downtown to country, wineries to dedicated wedding venues we wanted to showcase them for you and provide some additional information to help you make a better decision when it comes to narrowing them down.
Before we begin, lets get some stats and general information.
How Many Wedding Venues are in Roanoke?
The number changes from wedding season to wedding season however in 2020 there are 122 registered venues in the Roanoke Valley according to the Virginia SCC Entity Search.
And yes, Im sure there are others that are not on the list.
In fact on Wedding wire, that number is closer to 146, although some have closed and some are under new ownership and not doing weddings at the moment.
Trust me when I say that it took me nearly 2 weeks to go through large amounts of data that I had to pull from the SCC.
Not including free places such as parks, the price ranges in our region from as low as $199 to more than $19,500+.
Yes, almost $20,000 just for the venue and that is local within an hours drive of Roanoke.

Where To Stay When Planning Smith Mountain Lake Weddings
While it may be common to reserve a block of hotel rooms for your wedding party, there are so many problems that arise from that custom. Often guests are unhappy with the choice of hotel. If members of your wedding party have children, it can be a struggle getting them to feel comfortable in such a strange environment. It seems that no matter how many times you ask, hotels never book your rooms close to each other. Most importantly, its uncomfortable for a bridge to get ready in a cramped hotel room.
Can You Get Married In A Virginia State Park
Yes! You can have an elopement or wedding at any of Virginias state parks. If youre looking to have a small-ish, nature-centric, outdoor ceremony at a cheap or nearly free wedding venue in Virginia, definitely consider a state park.
Virginia State Parks are consistently voted one of the best state park systems in the nation. Virginia has 41 unique state parks, each with its own beauty, amenities, trails, and more. And when I say beauty, I mean BEAUTY! If you want to get married on a mountaintop, next to a waterfall, at a lake, in an open field surrounded by rolling hills, on the beach, at the base of a cliff, in a historic building, in a lush forest, on an island, or along one the states many rivers, there is a Virginia state park that can make your dream a reality.
How Much Does It Cost
Anywhere from $30-$2500
In most cases, if its a simple elopement or small wedding with only a handful of guests, youll only need to pay the Special Use Permit fee of $25 and the parking fee which is usually less than $10 upon entrance to the park.
If you are planning a bigger event with more guests, you may be renting out park facilities or meeting places. These prices can have a large range from $50 for outdoor space rentals to $2500 for top tier packages. Expect to pay on the higher end for events with over 150 guests, for some parks that offer all inclusive rental packages, or other parks where booking lodging for multiple days is required for weddings.
Even the highest price is less than most traditional wedding venues, though. So renting out a space in a Virginia state park is a great way to have an amazing, budget-friendly, outdoor wedding.
Here Is A Little Bit About Who We Are And The History Of Our Property
Where We Started
A Transformation Began
After some time of inactivity due to the sad passing of Sterling Belcher, Sterling’s son Stacy “Scruffy” Belcher took up the reigns on the property and began revitalizing it, merging the concert venue roots with his dreams of expanding the property to encompass additional events, most notably rustic style weddings.

Today Tripple Creek Wedding & Event Venue offers a unique setting for weddings, concerts, events and more. Our 50+ acres of naturally rustic property includes an ideal barn for ceremonies, a large and elevated open-air stage for concerts and shows, key photography features and elements, and expansive grounds for vendor setups and overnight RV camping.

A Tale Of Twins And Weddings: Famous Twins Couples Open Sml Wedding Venue
- Jeffrey Westbrook
The Salyers twins, who are the new owners of Smith Mountain Manor, pose for a family photo on the veranda with their babies.
Before boy meets girl, boy has brother: an identical twin brother. Oh, and the girl? She has a sister: an identical twin sister. So boys meet girls, boys and girls fall in love, and boys and girls have a double wedding featuring lots of twins. The two couples buy a mansion by the lake and set up a wedding venue. And both couples have a son.
It sounds like the stuff of fairy tales, but this is the real-life story of Josh and Jeremy Salyers and Brittany and Briana Deane Salyers. And the lake in the story is Smith Mountain Lake.
Their story starts a few years ago, but 2021 is shaping up to be an eventful year for the two couples. This year Brittany and Joshs son Jett was born Jan. 21, and Briana and Jeremys son Jax followed April 22.
The two couples also bought a home on Smith Mountain Lake together and all moved in. They closed on the mansion on Tolers Ferry Road in Huddleston in January.
Living in a home together was the obvious choice for the two families.
We get asked if were twins every day of our lives we do everything together, Jeremy pointed out. Its rare for us not to do even the smallest thing together, like going to the grocery store. Weve done it that way our whole lives. The girls are the same way. So it was only natural for us to move in together after we were married.
What Permits Do You Need To Get Married In A Virginia State Park
To get married in a Virginia State Park, youll need a Special Use Permit. Youll get that from each individual parks website or by contacting the ranger office by phone or email. The application costs $25 which can be mailed to the park and they ask that you allow 30 days for them to process the application, so youll need to plan that in advance.
In the past, the DCR Virginia state park website had some conflicting information about elopements and microweddings. As of summer of 2022, their website now states clearly that if you are interested in being married just the two of you, along the rivers edge at sunset or a scenic mountain overlook, yes, you can. You need to hire an officiant, get your wedding license at any Virginia Courthouse, pick your park and get special use permit. It is required. The permit includes photography taken by a professional photographer or commercial photography at parks where a fee is charged for the photo session or photography taken to be used in marketing materials or to sell. I always recommend talking to the a ranger at the park you are considering to learn all about their wedding or elopement policies before you fill out the permit form.
A special use permit is still required if you arent having a ceremony in a state park but still want to have photos taken there.
Need a permit and wondering if you can get away without one? Check out this blog post that describes why that would be a bad idea.
