Rachel + Ericred Maple Vineyard Wedding Hudson Valley Ny

June is such a gorgeous time in the Hudson Valley, and last year I was lucky enough to spend the day with Rachel and Eric at Red Maple Vineyard. I have been dreaming of getting to shoot there for ages, and not just because its a ten-minute drive from my house. Look at those fields, that tree swing, the stone ruins! If youre looking to have a rustic Hudson Valley wedding, you really cant pick a better spot. Plus, Id already spent a little time with this delightful duo for their Brooklyn engagement session, so I knew it was going to best the best day.

And Rachel and Erics nuptial celebration was everything a Hudson Valley wedding should be. A ceremony on a hilltop with a breathtaking view, a reception in a tent filled with greenery, and even a bonfire at the end of the night, which equals perfection! I loved getting to take these two out to the field for their first look and some dreamy portraits, and of course, we had to grab some sunset pictures on the hilltop after their ceremony! The reception was spread out on the lawn around the main building, stretching from their twinkle-light filled tent all the way to the pig pen, where we got to see some cute little piglets! As the sun set over the Catskills, the newlyweds and their guests laughed and cried through speeches and eventually flooded onto the dancefloor. How about that tie limbo, haha!

The handmade touches at The Inn at West Settlement are beautiful, and the price is quite affordable. This large white barn sitting on a pond is surrounded by hills. When it comes to Catskills wedding venues, this one is a no-brainer. Even their family-style tables are made from reclaimed wood from their own former silo. Play lawn games, roast smores, and use the vintage chairs, settings, and china as you decorate for your day. At $12,500, its a great price. For $2,500, you and your wedding party can stay the whole weekend in the bridal suite, which comes withget thisa sauna and Jacuzzi. Though one of the smallest venues acreage-wise, youd never know it because youre surrounded by nature. My favorite part? The 2nd-story walkway from the upper barn floor, which is great for this wedding photographer!

Hudson Valley Weddings Are All The Rage Heres What One Will Cost You

Part of the appeal of a Hudson Valley wedding is the wide-open space in which you can gather friends and family for your nuptials, like Hayfield, pictured, in the heart of the Catskills. Photo: John Dolan

According to The Knots most recent Real Weddings Study, the average Westchester/Hudson Valley wedding in 2017 cost $55,357, making it the fourth most expensive place to get married in the United States after Manhattan, New Jersey and Long Island.

The survey also reveals that couples sought out more unconventional venues to exchange their I Dos such as barns, farms and ranches, with an increase from a meager 2% in 2009 to 15% in 2017.

Jeanne Stark, owner of Hudson Valley Ceremonies in Rhinebeck, has been working in the wedding planning industry for 25 years and tells Brooklyn Based, Barns are highly desired and very hot right now. Weve seen a lot more demand for them over the past few yearsPeople are looking more to unconventional spaces to make their own these days like barns, farms, and CSAs and there are plenty of them out here, says Stark.

Just as we priced out the cost of a Brooklyn wedding, we did the same for the Hudson Valley, using The Knots survey as a starting point. Our tally is much higher, as youll see by the end, even without line items like attire or rings.

A Covered Reception With Trees Under The Tent

One of the things they most wanted to decorate the tent was TREES! It was incredible to see the outdoors brought indoors in this way. And it positively impacted their Red Maple Vineyard wedding photos, might I add.

The tent was just incredible. I feel like it was one of those had to be there things but luckily these photos capture the scale, romance and beauty of it all.

Erinn searched to make her vision come to life and hired wonderful vendors that made her dream a reality.

A personal favorite was their donation to Penn States dance marathon, a cause close to this couples hearts . They place the above left card at every place setting under the menus and napkins.

I was able to sneak up to the top of the propertys hill to capture the view for Erinn and Brett. This is where the ceremony would have been. Running up to this spot when there was some downtown during cocktail hour, while my second shooter provided coverage for it as I quickly drove up to the hill, was just a one way I was able to go the extra mile for Erinn and Brett as their photographer.

Red Maple Vineyard Indoor Ceremony As An Alternative To The Hills Overlook

Red Maple Vineyard West Park NY Wedding | Heather Brian

The weather held up for us to take photos outside with the wedding party, bride and groom. But it was too close to call for the ceremony. Thus, Erinn and Brett decided to play it safe and have the ceremony in a covered area.

The alternative was outside, at Red Maple Vineyards hill overlooking the Hudson Valley. They were bummed but they knew it was a possibility to move indoors. And they were glad to have the option.

Their friend played the guitar and a sweet melody for everyone entering the ceremony.

Their vows were completely personal and memorable. I loved when Erinn mentioned the exact amount of days she has loved Brett. I got completely choked up! I loved that their friend, Jeffrey, officiated and I loved the look on her grandmothers faces as they witnessed their granddaughter tie the knot.

It was really important to Erinn to incorporate her Irish heritage and she found the perfect way to honor that: with bag pipes and a drummer. After their ceremony first kiss the duo played their way down the aisle to lead the way to the reception. It was really moving I loved it!
