What Are The Best Ways Engaged Couples Can Ask For Money

If you’re approaching this from the other side and are an engaged couple wondering how to ask for money or what you can expect to be given, here’s some ideas of what you can do.

1) Ask on your invitations for guests to bring cash gifts on the day and state if there will be a secure money box or gift table to leave them. We’d recommend explaining what you want to save the money towards if you have an idea in mind. You may feel awkward about asking outright so one of these money poems is a cute way to do it.

2) Create a wedding gift list that has both gift options and a money donation option. Guests then have the choice between buying a tangible gift for you and/or give you a financial gift.

3) If you want money towards your honeymoon, set up a honeymoon gift list where funds can go towards the costs of flights and hotels, or towards specific trips and activities. A guest might love to know they’re paying for a bungee jump in New Zealand and see the photos afterwards.

4) If you have a specific purchase in mind, such as saving up for a house, you can set up a fun website where guests can donate to that specific thing. For example, a website called ‘Buy Us A Brick’ where guests can buy you figurative bricks to build your first home.

Still considering a gift list? How about adding some of these sustainable gift ideas for eco-conscious couples?

We wanted the guests to give us money and not presents, because my wife and I had to pay for the wedding without any help from our parents and we were up to our necks in expenses, the 37-year-old physiotherapist explains. The problem was, we didnt know how to say that in the invitation without being crass. In the end, we chose to say: For those who would like to make a small contribution, here is our bank account. It seems like a very simple phrase but we spent days thinking about it.

How Should You Give The Money At A Wedding

If you are attending the wedding and want to give money as a gift, you should bring an envelope or wedding card with cash inside to the reception. It is best to avoid giving cash in any other way, as it can be seen as rude or demanding. You can pick alternative options if you are close to the couple and see yourself as a true friend. You should send the money early enough to make it available for the setting up of the wedding. Sending the money a week before the wedding will be a nice time to do this. On the other hand, if you are not too close to the couples, the best practice is to put the money in an envelop or present with money with a beautiful wedding card.

What If You Can’t Afford It

If you can’t seem to swing the $50 gift no matter how hard you try, you have several options. You can decline the wedding invitation and simply send the couple a card with your best wishes to show that you care. This would hardly be a new occurrence, as 21% of wedding guests said that costs have prohibited them from attending a wedding.

Additionally, you can go in on a registry gift with a group of people that would make your contribution less than $50 or buy you a little more time to pay the full amount. In fact, many couples have said that this type of gift is actually their favorite to receive.

Gift Cash Or Check With Some Elegance

How Much Money Do You Give For A Wedding Gift 2020

There are ways to make gifting cash or a check just as beautiful as a regular gift- bring some elegance to it!

Giving money or check inside a greeting card with some heartfelt handwritten warm wishes is the easiest way to make the gift look more thoughtful.

This option also doesnt add much additional cost. There are plenty of affordable beautiful cards available at most drugstores, craft supply stores etc. to choose from.

If you have the talent, you can also draw a nice portrait for the couple to go along with your gift.

Another option is to place the money or check envelope along with a handwritten note on the back side of a small home decoration item like a wall plaque, for instance.

This one, in particular, can make even a cash gift look more interesting. You can choose a wall plaque or any other home decor item according to the hobbies of the couple.

If the couple likes to travel a lot, you can choose an item with a travel-related quote etc. You dont have to overextend your budget for this option either. At places like home goods, Tj Maxx etc it is easier to find something nice even under $10.

For a couple who likes to throw parties- keep the cash or check envelope inside a cocktail recipe book, finger food recipe book etc.

While some people frown at the thought and others laud its practicality, cash as a wedding gift continues to rise in popularity. Hopefully, the above tips have helped you figure out the ideal amount to give at a wedding.

This Is How Much You Should Actually Be Spending On Wedding Gifts

Big weddings are back on and that means fancy dinners, dancing the night away, and celebrating with your loved ones.

It also means youll probably be spending quite a bit.

We know that planning a wedding is expensive, but even being a guest can be extremely costly.

In fact, the average cost of being a wedding guest is an eye-watering £541.90 which includes a new outfit, somewhere to stay, drinks and, of course, a gift.

But how much should you be spending on your wedding gift? Does it depend on how well you know the couple? Will you be judged if you dont spend enough?

The experts at Ocean Finance have thankfully run the numbers to help wedding guests decide how much is appropriate to spend on the all-important present. And it does seem to depend on where you sit in the wedding party.

While people might worry about how much to spend on a gift, many couples are just happy youre able to celebrate the day with them and they realise youve probably already spent money doing just that, says Sarah Neate, editor in chief at Ocean Finance.

But we found that people tend to spend more if theyre closer to the couple with over double the spend for a family member or close friend, compared to acquaintances, such as a colleague.

However, you dont need to spend a fortune to show how much you care, and opting for a personalised or handmade gift can be a thoughtful and affordable way of celebrating the newlyweds.
