The Knot Wedding Website Lookup

A Website Is A Website Is A Website

How to create a wedding website using The Knot// FREE wedding website// Quick and Easy

General website providers are offering some templates built specially for weddings. This might make sense for you if youre someone who already uses these sites, so you know your way around them. The biggest plus is that they offer a lot more customization features the templates allow you to play with fonts, pages, and layouts to a greater degree than the other providers. However, these sites generally dont provide the RSVP and registry integrations at the same level as dedicated wedding website providers.

Wix offers this, but I immediately found it difficult to navigate. The most viable one is Squarespace. $12/month for 12 months gets you a custom domain and 8 templates to choose from. The RSVP and registry features are pretty basic, but the design and customization is sleek and simple, just like Squarespaces other offerings.

The Knots Simple Orientations Allows For A Clean User Experience

Youd think that with all of this content, The Knot would be a chaotic jumbled mess. But in reality, its a serene, clean and comfortable design that makes it easy for users to navigate throughout the many tools, articles and resources.

The layout is very simple and clean. This design is made up of a bright white background, bold, black and clear typography and creative imagery that guides people down the site and throughout the design.

This is a serene web page that uses plenty of white space to pull users in and provide them with all the information they need and it does so without stress and anxiety. Similarly, images make up blocks and CTAs that make it simple for users to learn more about a given topic or read up on some inspirational information.

Its a straightforward design, with little in the way of bells and whistles. It has a purpose to connect people with the tools they need. And it doesnt try to do more than it needs to, which is a refreshing change from the sleek, modern and innovative website designs that have grown in popularity.

On top of its clean and sophisticated layout, the menu bar is comprehensive yet concise. There is a primary menu bar up top and a secondary one beneath. Hovering over these straightforward labels causes a menu to drop down with an even more extensive list of planning, inspiration and gallery options.

This makes navigation simple, and the journey from one to the other is equally as seamless, creating a user-friendly experience.

Its Not So Much Secrecy But Our Ability To Control How We Present Ourselves In The World

As many couples will tell you, one of the most surprising things about planning a wedding is how much minutiae there is to take care of. Exhibit A: the font you use to designate the numbered signs on your tables.

But a couple of nights ago as I was updating my wedding registry, I discovered a new detail to fret over: A website set up in the name of myself and my fiancé that we didnt create.

The page, which was built by the bridal website The Knot, features our full names, wedding date and links to some of our registries as well as pictures of the grey napkins and robot vacuum we picked out. It even includes a location for our wedding, which happens to be wrong.

My registry page on The Knot.

The site looks, at first glance, like the type of wedding site a couple might create themselves. The Knot lets its registered users create such sites for free, but my fiancé and I made a conscious decision not to partake of this service.

We chose the slightly harder and more expensive route of building a site with a clean layout and our own domain name because we wanted the site to reflect our internet savvy and by extension, our taste.

And yet, when I Googled my name and my fiancés name together, the page The Knot created without our permission was the top result. The Knot deleted the site after I reached out to the company for comment on this piece, but below is a screenshot of the Google results when I first discovered the site.

Other Wedding Websites That Didnt Make The List:

While a lot of these have beautiful designs and functionality, in my opinion they either offer too much, too little, are too pricey, or the above options simply have them beat.

Riley & Grey: Pretty? Yes. But at $35/month or $240 year youre much better going with one of the free options above.

Wedding Window: I actually used this for our wedding website 10 years ago and liked itbut I feel like a lot of their themes/formats havent changed all that much since then! The free version features 13 website pages and limited access to themes, but you have to upgrade for other items. A premium version will get you online guest RSVPs, e-mail blasts, and more themes and pages for $14.95/month or $79/year. Custom domains will still cost you $19.95/year.

Wedding Woo: While I like the concept of Wedding Woo, I found the backend to be a bit clunky when it was time for me to customize the look and feel of my sample wedding website. They do offer some cool features though, such as online RSVPs and a Soundcloud widget to play music. However, its not cheap. Pricing is $49 for one year of $69 for two years.

How Do I Create A Wedding Website

Most wedding websites make it easy to begin creating and editing your page after signing up for a free account or purchasing a subscription plan . Then users can opt to create a custom URL, write up a love story and plug in logistical details, upload photos and videos, customize website design, and continually make changes at any time.

How To Choose A Wedding Website Provider Without Losing Your Mind

    My mother texted me, appalled.

Did you know this magazine recommends that your wedding should have branding?

Unfortunately, I did. I’m in the early stages of planning my own wedding, and have been to a fair amount of friends’ nuptials. So at this point, on invitations and wedding signage galore, Ive seen enough intertwined initials surrounded by curlicues or signals of the couple’s interests , to know that creating a ~visual identity~ for ones wedding is par for the course maybe even a requirement these days.

One of the ways that design takes center stage in contemporary weddings is through the wedding website. When people are on the cusp of matrimony, they create a site with all the relevant information about their upcoming event, and often, themselves as a couple. The color scheme, fonts, and general look and feel of the site often carries over to the paper invitations and actual wedding.

These websites are, granted, extremely helpful for guests. For most weddings Ive been to, I refer to the website not the paper invitation, which has been lost somewhere for information about where the heck Im actually supposed to show up, and when. The websites also help guests find valuable info like which hotels to book, how to RSVP, and how to find your online gift registries. Modern AND helpful: Oh my!

Just dont stress too much about that visual identity, OK?

    Make The Site Searchable

Many of the website builders will charge extra for you to create or use a customized web address, or URL. Buying one, however, makes sense.

First, theyre inexpensive . But, more important, a custom address, like couplename.com instead of couplename.minted.us, can make your website easier for guests to find when looking for it on search engines like Google. This is something many attendees end up doing, regardless of whether you had included the URL on your save-the-date cards or wedding invitations.

Industry experts recommend keeping a site active for about a year after the wedding, since the general rule is that guests have up to a year to buy the couple a gift.

What Information Should I Include In A Wedding Website

Most wedding websites include key logistical information guests need to know about the event, such as the date of the wedding and when to RSVP, where the wedding and reception will take place, suggestions for where to stay, eat, and sightsee, and details about the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and the couples’ engagement story. Some wedding websites will include registry information and a photo or video gallery, too.
