At KAREN WILLIS HOLMES boutiques our appointments last for an hour and a half and the standard across all boutiques seems to average out between an hour to ninety minutes.
This might seem like a long time but, trust us, the time goes quickly especially when you think about the time it will take to get acclimated and pick out the gowns youre going to try onwhether youre browsing racks yourself or even telling you stylist your vision and having them pick them out for you. Once youve got your first few picks ready to put on you also have to think about how long it takes to try on wedding dresses.
Many gowns have buttons or corsets in addition to zippers and your stylist will want to pin or clamp your gown to your body to ensure youre getting a true vision of how your gown will fit once its properly in your size. That can take a few minutes for each dress. This is the fairest way to our customers, as shops that offer a one price for alterations services are generally working on averages. In many instances, you will end up paying far more for a flat alteration fee, than if you were to pay only for the alterations you needed. Lets be honest, weve all watched an episode of Say Yes to the Dress where weve rolled our eyes because of someone that was being overly opinionated. You dont want that! Your experience can quickly turn negative with too many opinions being thrown at you.
It may sound like so much fun to take all five bridesmaids, your mom, your mother-in-law, your grandmothers, your father and the dog, too but the truth is you dont have to! Bring the people whose opinions you value the most & the people who will truly have your best interest in mind when wedding dress shopping!
2. Ask Questions, A lot of Them!
You should not only ask questions to the bridal shop owner and stuff but ask yourself some key questions, too!
- Do I feel beautiful, confident and comfortable?
- Can I dance in it?
- Can I sit down?
- Will I feel comfortable being in it?
Although a gown may be gorgeous, if you cant move in it all night and feel trapped, mummy-style, its not the right one for you.
As you are shopping, if you absolutely love a dress, but you dont like one teeny tiny part of it, ask if it can be changed before dismissing it. Most designers or seamstresses can remove beading, flowers, trains and more. They can also add sleeves, illusion necklines, belts, cups to the bust, lower backs and more to make it custom for you!
