A dear friend of mine is getting married today, in a state halfway across the country. None of her close friends are there to support her, mostly because she only recently moved away from Seattle to be close to her sweetheart. But at least shes going to hold a bouquet of flowers I made Wednesday and sent via FedEx overnight delivery service. Her new husband will be wearing a sweet little boutonniere I sent along.
Heres how to successfully make and send a long-distance gift of flowers:
1. Select durable flowers with fairly tight buds. I chose all Northwest-grown flowers in a cream-to-peach-to-coral palette:

2. Select foliage that wont bruise or break. That was easy with such lovely options:

If you are planning a wedding, it is best to contact your florist as soon as you know your date to confirm they are available. 6 months to a year is a perfect amount of time to start the process, but as little as 3 months is doable!

It is prudent to place your order wedding flower order between six and nine months ahead of the wedding. For some people, ordering this early might seem way too far ahead of the wedding date. However, placing your order far in advance gives us ample time to plan for your big day.
How do you keep flowers fresh for a wedding? It is best to keep flowers in cool water in a cool place or refrigerator, trim the stems, place flowers in vases of cool water and mist arrangements hourly to keep them fresh. Keep fresh-cut bouquets in vases of water between, before and after pictures and the ceremony to keep flowers from wilting.
How far in advance can you buy flowers for someone?
Open at least 6 days a week they offer same day delivery and can make virtually any design you could ask for. If its a really special flower theyll need a bit of notice, but 24 hours is usually enough.

Now that your wedding bouquet is all dry use it to decorate your home with it. I use the card glass box from my wedding to display the flowers. This glass box its beautiful and I was able to reuse two things from my wedding! It did cracked a little when we moved, but since is still together Im still using it .
I also kept the cake topper and some other keepsakes from my wedding in the box. I think this is a great idea on how to make sure that your wedding bouquet is not only preserved but it can be used to decorate your home. Also, its free!!
I display it on top of my Ikea malm dresser in the master bedroom. But it would look beautiful displayed in a shelf or even a coffee table.
