So, as i i understand it, the process is that Im supposed to go on the microsoft program and look for invitation templates? Thats my first question. Is it called wedding invitation templates? Then when I get it the way i want it, im supposed to save it on one of those sticks . Then i take that and the blank invitation cards that i bought to Staples, and they will print them out on my cards, right? Anybody know what i should expect to pay for 30 invites in this manner? I bought an invitation kit at the dollar store for a buck a piece for 2 boxes of 25 cards and envelopes. OR do they they have the template if i just provide the wording for the invitations ? Im so computer iliterate, its embarrassing!

Supplies To Assemble The Invites:

Instead of messy glue sticks, I used this amazing product: the Scotch Tape Runner. I purchased it in the crafting section at Walmart, but you can also order it on . I got one of these and 2 refills. They cost around $5-7 for the dispenser, but the refills are a little less. These little runners were so easy to use and work great, so I cannot recommend them enough.

The Benefits Of Diy Wedding Invitations

There are plenty of talented stationers and graphic designers out there who are working creatively to deliver you that can be customized and printed at home. For a fraction of the cost of a custom invitation suite and printing services, you can get a semi-custom invitation that will fit your wedding to a T. “Cost is definitely the biggest benefit,” says Kate Weber, owner and designer of West + Pine, a paper company focused on designing invitation templates for weddings and other special events. “This way you’re not having to pay someone else to do the printing service.”

According to Weber, printing your own invitations from a downloadable template gives you a great option to find an invitation design that suits your style, customize it to fit your specific wedding information, and then quickly print invitations on your own and ship them off. “You could easily do it in an afternoon with the right planning,” she says.

We’ve put together a guide to help you navigate the DIY wedding invitations route. Read on for 13 steps to consider, along with tips and tricks from the pros.

To ensure the best results for printing stationery at home, opt for a printable invitation template in PDF format that isnt too color-heavy .

In my view, a great option for time and cash-strapped people is printable wedding invitations and stationery. That way you can say you DIYed them, without actually having to get too crafty!

Here are the key things to consider when choosing printable wedding invitations:

a) Check the invitation file format

Usually, you will see templates offered in 2 formats JPEG and PDF.

When youre printing wedding invitations at home, to be honest, its not going to make a HUGE difference if you use the JPEG or PDF file. But, as a rule of thumb, PDFs are better for printing.

Hopefully, the PDF will be provided with crop marks and a bleed margin.

This means that the design of the card will bleed past the edges of the card. So, when trimmed to size via the crop mark guides, there will be no ugly white spaces at the edges of the card .

In the below example, the red dotted line shows where the card would be trimmed to size according to the crop marks in the corners this ensures the background color extends to the very edges of the final invitation:

If youre planning to print a few invitations onto a larger piece of cardstock, then a file with crop marks and bleed will really help when it comes to cutting them down to size. For instance, if you send your designs off to a professional printer, they will likely ask for a file with bleed.

Choose Your Vendor And Consider A Print Shop

Online options such as Minted, Shutterfly, and Zazzle offer gorgeous invitation templates at affordable prices . Etsy also offers a great opportunity to discover talented designers, and many offer the option to customize one of their templates.

For printing, take into consideration the print-at-home option, along with the option of sending your completed file to a larger printer such as Costco or Office Depot or work with your neighborhood printing shop. A print shop will be able to help select the best paper for your design, trim the cards to the perfect size, and provide that professional touch your wedding invitations deserve, says Griffith.

Customer Service Cost $$

This is our favorite place to print wedding invitations. Not only do I use Cards and Pockets myself, but I send all of my template customers to Cards and Pockets, too.

Theyre a white unicorn in the cardstock industry because they offer one-on-one service while still offering affordable prices. They print on pretty much any cardstock they carry, so you have options to choose from. And they have an amazing customer service team should you run into any issues.

Price wise, theyre slightly more expensive than Staples or some larger online printers. But unlike with other printers, Ive never been let down by the quality.

Im not kidding when I say they are the best.

  • Figure out how many invitations you need and select the number as shown in the photos aboveand, as a party planner, I suggest you print a few extras in case they get lost or you forgot to add someone to the guest list.
  • While at Walmart, you can pick up social envelopes. They come in the 4×6 and the 5×7 varieties, generally with lots of different colors and usually with the sticky back on the flapso you dont have to lick the envelope!
  • This step will get you! Dont forget to make sure your No Crop indicator is check marked. This will make it so the print doesnt cut any edges off your invitation and it doesnt change the design in any way.

    Schedule And Plan Ahead

Printing your own invitations may be more affordable than having them printed by a pro, but it doesn’t always mean it will be faster. Be sure to give yourself time, grace, and patience when printing at home, because it can get a little complicated. Invitations should be mailed eight weeks before your wedding date, says Amy Gonzales, a designer at Smitten on Paper, a custom wedding invitation company. Be sure to count back from your wedding date and plan your printing time accordingly. Make sure you have about 10 percent more supplies than you actually need in case of mistakes or the need to reprint something, Gonzales adds.

    Printing Our Wedding Invitation Envelopes

To start, youll want an Excel spreadsheet of all of your guest addresses. I suggest one column for name , one for street address, one for street address 2 one for city, one for state, one for zip code, then a last one for country if you have any international invitations to mail. Next, create your envelope template in Word with the fonts and spacing for how you want your envelope addressed. Make sure you first change the page layout size to match that of your envelopes so you can get the scaling correctly!

I know I wanted a combination of a block font and a cursive one, and Id seen a few envelopes online with kindly deliver to written on them and liked that tiny detail. I used a text box and the font Didot to write the guest address, and wrote out the kindly deliver to in the font Amigirl Script . Complete a mail merge and youll magically have all of your addressed envelopes written out because nobody has time to copy paste 200 times!

Want my Word template of this invitation to use for your own mail merge? . No need to request access, just save it to your computer. Once its saved, open it in Microsoft Word and make any changes directly there! Remember youll have to get the fonts I used first to get my exact look , and you might have to change the paper size!

Hope this helps if youre considering printing your wedding invitation envelopes by yourself!
