Ceremonies at sea officiated by the ships captain abide by the laws of the country where the ship is registered. To get married at sea on a Celebrity Cruises ship, youll need to obtain a Maltese wedding license beforehand.

Also, if youre getting married at sea by a ships captain, your wedding ceremony cant be held on embarkation day or night and will need to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in order for the ships staff to be able to properly perform their duties.

Some destinations require that you apply for the wedding license in person, others allow submitting an application via mail. The cost of marriage licenses varies by state – from $25 in Alaska to $150 .
