For our wedding, we did it this way and even planned to have a first look. When the time came, it was so windy on the beach that we ended up just making the decision to see each other at the ceremony. It was totally not the original plan we had in mind but it worked out really well. Besides that, my wife was running behind schedule. Regardless, it was a very laid back day.

Mother nature can have a mind its own and things dont always run perfectly on time. If things run behind schedule, you may find yourself having a dark ceremony outdoors where lighting can become very challenging for your photographers. Natural lighting changes very rapidly after the sun sets below the horizon. The skies can look really cool but its a risky time to document a ceremony. When you plan for the ceremony right at sunset youre taking a big risk to make sure everything runs smoothly and youre not always guaranteed that dreamy golden light. You may have an overcast day for all you know and the lighting toward the evening will look no different than it does during the day. Always try to plan with a balance between what is safe and what is ideal.

Alright now were finally getting to the good stuff. Every photographer loves this question. They love it because they know after doing so many weddings that the flow of the day goes much more smoothly. They come away with more opportunities to get the shots they need and their clients seems to enjoy the day a whole lot more. Doing a first look allows you to get all your necessary pictures out of the way before the ceremony so you can attend your own cocktail hour, eat those fancy appetizers and focus on spending time with your guests.

There is something special about that moment when all your friends and family members are gathered around awaiting the bride, the music is playing and its finally happening. If anything the first look will help remove those butterflies but it definitely wont remove the emotion and love you have. I can go on and on about this. When Should The Photography Services Begin And End

We begin our photography services during the final touches of hair and makeup. We want the bride to look her best before taking her pictures. If we are shooting before final touches, it is only far away candid shots and/or details. We end our photography services a bit after the last tradition or once weve gotten a good amount of the dancing photos We find guests appreciate the break from flashing lights in their face all night.

For both questions, above youll really want to consult your photographer. The work that they do may require them to come earlier or stay later. It really all depends on how they like to approach the day. For us, weve found that we work best within the range of shooting 6-8 hours. After that we really start to fadeunless our clients are feeding us like crazy, were well hydrated or we pack lots of energy snacks. If the wedding requires over 10 hours or definitely beyond 12 hours well arrange for having our associate photographers take over. We want to have high energy when were shooting and not just sitting around filling time because its on the contract.

Got to travel between your ceremony location and reception venue? Make sure you shift the timings to suit. Planning to travel to get your hair and makeup done at the salon make sure you add in extra time.Not planning a first dance or cutting the cake ditch it!

  • Find a fixed point in your day & base your wedding day timetable around that.

    The best way to plan out your wedding day is to use a fixed point as a basis and work out from there. The ceremony is the most likely thing to be fixed first. If youre getting married at a registry office then youll no doubt have a set time for your ceremony booked. Whereas if youve got a more flexible venue then you will have to consider when youd like your ceremony.

  • Plan in some contingency time

    No matter what timetable you decide on, make sure there is plenty of contingency for things to run slightly over. Allow for things like traffic, delays caused by weather or some kind of technical problem with one of the suppliers. It doesnt have to be long but just allows a little time between each part of the day, this will then allow you to adapt things if something does get delayed.

    What kind of meal you are having will affect timing a three-course meal will take considerably longer than a buffet. Caterers allow for 30-45 minutes for guests to move through a buffet whereas plated meals are served around 45 minutes apart so you need to allow 2-3 hours for a meal.

    Create A List Of Shots For Your Photographer

    Its essential to provide your photographer with the family members and wedding party that will be a part of your formal photos. Chat with your photographer about the different types of shots you want to take before the ceremony, after the ceremony, and during the reception. Your photographer will help you time out your day, including a time they will need the wedding party and family to be ready by, so you can plan your day around it. Give your photographer a wedding photo list to ensure no shot is missed. Besides the obvious shots such as the bridal portrait and religious ceremony, include photos of the menus, bouquet toss, wedding cake, guest book, etc.

    The rest we can go with the flow or give suggestions if needed once we see a timeline. Some portions can be handled at the same time depending on the amount of photographers at the event.
