Central Park Conservatory Garden Wedding

Katie And Zack How They Met

The Central Park Wedding Tour-The Conservatory Garden

So there you have it everything you need to know for your Central Park Conservatory Garden wedding. Now lets get the details of Katie and Zacks wedding, starting with how they met .

Katie and Zack met nine years ago, at Viera High School in drama class. They were both new to the drama departmentKatie having just transferred high schools, and Zack trying something new after being persuaded by a friend to take a drama elective.

The first memory they have of a spark between the two of them is when Zack somehow ended up with Katies car keys in his pocket after helping unload theatre equipment. Flustered, Katie had to call Zack out of class to come and give them to her so that she could make it to a doctors appointment on time. Zack texted her later on, apologizing and offering to take her out to make it up to her. Katie, completely oblivious, responded, No thats okay! Dont worry about it :). Zack, a little embarrassed, shrugged it off and moved on.

Central Park Conservatory Garden Wedding Final Advice

Here are my parting words of advice for anyone planning a Central Park Conservatory Garden wedding:

Have a rain backup location. The garden has no place to run to in case of bad weather. Unfortunately, this happened at the end of Katie and Zacks wedding. While the rain clouds held off for the ceremony , it started to pour during their portrait session. Its sad, but true, that bad weather is a daily threat in NYC. For Katie and Zacks wedding, the couple made arrangements with their reception location to hold the ceremony there in case of rain.

Plan for mobility issues. If you have elderly or infirmed guests, know that it is a trek to make it up the stairs to the wisteria pergola. Plan on bringing chairs if need be.

Plan for where to meet and have a greeter to direct people. On any given Saturday at the Central Park Conservatory Garden, there are three weddings going concurrently. While the garden is limited in size, it is easy to get lost and wander into the wrong wedding. You cant put up signs in front of the main gate to the park, so instead plan to have a few ushers to direct people to your wedding ceremony location.

Pack your patience. You wont have the Conservatory Garden all to yourself, so plan for a little extra New York ambience. Most people are respectful and wont interfere with your wedding, but then again at Matthew and Traviss wedding we had a foreign tourist walk right up to the couple during the ceremony. Why, peoplewhy?

My Top 10 Favorite Central Park Wedding Ceremony Locations

Planning an intimate wedding in Central Park? Here are my top ten favorite scenic to have an intimate wedding ceremony or elopement in Central Park.

In terms of permits – you are only required one for an event in Central Park with 20 or more people The Conservatory Gardens in the north east of the Park require a permit for both ceremony & photography sessions. While some of the areas are available to reserve, they will not be closed to the public, so I always recommend areas that are a litter quieter and away from the popular areas within the park. One of the best things about getting married in New York City and in particular Central Park, all the random people passing by quickly become your unofficial audience that results in a roar of cheers, clapping and well wishes when you are pronounced married. This is all part of the charm of getting married in the city.

This is a Victorian pavilion set on the edge of The Lake. Ideal for a ceremony that will provide some shelter from the weather.

Perched on top of a small hill near 67th Street & 5th, it is a secluded spot in the park and can be a great location for a few guests to be able to sit during the ceremony. While its a far more private location, I do find other park uses talk loudly walking up the path as they cannot see a ceremony is in progress until they are basically walking into the space.

This Central Park micro-wedding was everything these two wanted, intimate and full of love. Jessica made sure she got married in a beautiful dress that fit her personality, paired with Nates equally handsome suit. Having a wedding at the Conservatory Garden is perfect for any season. This beautiful, lush area of the park is unforgettably beautiful.

Bethesda Fountain & Terrace

The Bethesda Fountain & Terrace, located in the heart of the park close to 72nd Street, is one of the most iconic places to get married in Central Park.

Central area, which feels like a large plaza, contains the Bethesda Fountain and, just under the terrace, one can reach the Arcade, which is decorated in elaborate mosaic tiles. If you decide to do your elopement package here, you can get married by the actual fountain or under the beautiful mosaic tiled ceiling of the passageway. The Bethesda Terrace is an architectural masterpiece and one of the only formal, classically designed structures in the parkâif you have never visited this beautiful landmark, we suggest you go take a look at itâas it is a surprise to see such a formidable structure right in the middle of the park.

Elopement At The Central Park Conservatory Gardens

Kim and Dan had the most romantic wedding day in Central Park. Although they had to reschedule their wedding day three times before they could make everything official, it was worth the wait! Their serene elopement was truly beautiful and I felt so honored to be one of only two people there with them when they tied the knot. Along with their officiant, I watched as Kim and Dan exchanged vows in one of the most gorgeous spots in the city. I even signed their marriage license! What an honor, seriously! There is nothing more magical to me than being with a couple who is SO present and so in love.

After they exchanged vows, they took a long walk through the beautiful manicured gardens in Central Parks Conservatory. We had a great time just letting them relax and celebrate being officially husband and wife. Kim showed off both of her gorgeous gowns from Amsale and they just enjoyed the time together.

Kim and Dan are just perfect for each other! This Central Park elopement is something I will remember for so many years to come. Kim and Dan, thank you for asking me to be part of this special moment for you both!

A note: all health and safety protocols needed during this unprecedented time were followed by all attending and involved with the event.

Restoration of the Conservatory Garden hardscapes is currently still in progress in 2022 and is slated to be finished in 2024. Most of the hardscapes are original from 1937 construction and are in great need of infrastructure upgrades. More info here.

Located at 5th Avenue and 105th street and open daily from 8am until dusk, Conservatory Garden is the only formal garden found in Central Park. The quiet, calm atmosphere of the Garden, free from runners and bicyclists, makes it an ideal spot for both weddings and relaxing afternoon walks.

Along with Conservatory Water, Conservatory Garden was opened in 1937 to replace the original but quickly deteriorating structure that had been a part of the park’s initial plan. The Garden, designed by Gilmore D. Clarke, is composed of six acres of beautiful seasonal plants that are arranged into three styles: English, French, and Italian.

Romantic Candid Wedding Photos At The Conservatory Garden

To get the family in the shade, we went to the canopy of trees in the Conservatory Garden following the ceremony. It was the perfect spot to take Central Park wedding photos with nice even lighting. Plus, it kept family and friends in the shade. Next up was the couples NYC wedding photography portrait session. We couldnt help but wander around this beautiful part of Central Park. We found the perfect spots to take some fun photos, including a bench by an old tree that was amazing to shoot against.

Under A Cherry Blossom Tree

Central Park has many pretty cherry blossoms trees in full bloom generally during late April & early May. If we time it right, it’s one of the most secluded ways to get married in Central Park. I recommend taking a walk through Central Park a day or two before your ceremony to pick out the ideal tree. The areas around Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir are a good place to start the hunt for the perfect tree.

Honorable Mention: Bow Bridge

I love Bow Bridge because you can see the skyline and glassy pond the photos here are some of my all-time favorites. In the fall, vibrant foliage adds the perfect pop of color to wedding photos. However, Id probably use this spot for photos only instead of a full wedding ceremony. The bridge gets crowded, and there isnt much room for guests. But if youve always dreamed of having your first kiss on this iconic bridge, lets do it!

Katie And Zack The Proposal

After many years of dating, Zack proposed to Katie on July 18th, 2016. With the help their good friend Carly, Zack planned out a perfect evening. Carly had to rush out of town, and told Katie to take a nail appointment that she had made for herself but wouldnt be able to go to. Little did Katie know, this was a ruse to make sure her hands were photo-ready.

Zack then took her out to dinner at her favorite vegetarian restaurant, under the guise of a nice evening together before she started rehearsals for her next show. He was nervous throughout, still a small fear in the back of his head that she might inexplicably say no. Throughout the meal, Zack kept brushing his chest pocket to make sure the ring hadnt somehow fallen out. After dinner, they went for a walk through Central Park, where Zack conveniently had a photographer-friend waiting on standby. As they were passing over a stone footbridge, he turned her to point out a pretty building and then dropped down to one knee. She said yes.

3 I want a violinist or some kind if beautiful string music any suggestions of who to hire

4 I would like an photographer for the wedding who will also come with us for a couple if hours around the city for some iconic NYC wedding shots

4) Brian Friedman has been a recent favorite on the forum and Vito Kwan at Jasmine Studios has been used a lot. If you google conservatory weddings you will find loads of photos, most with photographers identified.

PS if you do a text search on any of these subjects on this forum you’ll find info/suggestions like this on music

Why don’t you ask the Central Park Conservatory which section is the best for that time of year? That would be your best bet.

Where To Have A Central Park Ceremony And When

Some of the most popular locations require a permit to ensure your time won’t conflict with another couple or park event. The Ladies Pavilion, The Cop Cot, Wagner Cove, and Shakespeare’s Garden are location I’d always recommend getting one. See my ceremony locations guide for the top locations and suggestions on permits. In terms of picking a date, the park is lovely and different in every season! However, there is one time of the year I suggest avoiding planning a wedding if you want photos around the Bethesda Fountain and Terrace. The Friends of the Central Park Conservancy typically host an event, The Taste of Summer, in early June. The terrace will be unaccessible the day of, two days before and after the event. If the terrace area isn’t important to you, there are plenty of other areas in the park to marry and take portraits. The Conservatory Garden is another option for a Central Park Wedding. Ceremonies there cost $500, including the photography fee. It is a nice option for the Spring when the flowers are in bloom, but I’m not sure the cost justifies it otherwise. However, it is more private and more quiet than the other locations but it is also far from the most popular areas of the park.

Central Park Wedding Locations

New York City is definitely a beautiful place to get married in. No matter what the season is, the city has numerous parks, rooftops and venues available as options to use for events. But one of the places that most often comes to mind when you think of New York City and weddings is our gorgeous, massive and romantic Central Park. Central Park is also one of the most sought after locations to use in the city for photo and film shoots. Central Park is really like nowhere else and many even consider the place to be its own unique world. The park is far different from other areas in Central Manhattan, and it even has its own lakes, boat pier, restaurants, stage for theater events, ice rinks, and zoo.

There are also many idyllic places to get married in at Central Park. These places include: castles, bridges, terraces and gazebosâall prime Central Park wedding spots that call to mind a time that has long passed. You will never go wrong with such a location if your goal is to plan a classic wedding event. The variety of spots available for such events can really amaze anyoneâand, sometimes confuse as well, especially if one gets lost on a particular pathway while out exploring.

Central Park Wedding Permits

The Central Park Wedding Tour – The Ladies Pavilion

Whether you need a permit depends on the size of your wedding and location. There are many locations that don’t require a permit . If you have less than 20 people, you can just show-up and marry about anywhere in Central Park unless another event is taking place. If you have more than 20 guests or want to reserve a specific location, I highly recommend getting a permit. Permits are $25 and can be bought via the park’s website with 30 days notice. You can have acoustic but no amplified music with that permit. For more information on locations and fees, see this page.Apply for a special event permit for a Central Park Wedding.
