Theres A Greater Risk Of Cancellation
Sure, there are some circumstances when a traditional wedding venue might have to cancel your eventsay, a major natural disaster or a change in public health lawsbut the risk is very low.
In contrast, Airbnbs are individual peoples homes and investment properties, and a host might need to cancel their stay for personal reasons. Maybe theyre selling the property and it turns out theyll close in advance of your weddingor maybe they need a place to stay while their primary residence undergoes repairs.
Airbnbs penalties for host cancellations are relatively low, and in some cases, the fee is even waived.
Hosts often pay just $50 to $100 for cancellations.
Hosts can cancel unauthorized parties, so if you havent been crystal clear about the purpose of your stay, you could end up without a venue.
Likewise, hosts can cancel you in response to negative reviews on your profile. If you have any other vacations lined up, you need to be a five-star guest.
While SuperHosts cancel less than 1 percent of reservations, some couples dont need the extra nervousness that comes with considering the possibility of a cancellation.
You Could Face Penalties if You Cancel
Beyond the risk of being canceled on, you might need to cancel or reschedule your wedding and Airbnb stay. If this happens, you might not be able to get your money back . In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, some wedding parties had to fight for their money back, even though weddings had to be canceled due to the virus.
How Much To Budget
As with any wedding, your budget for an Airbnb event will depend on the venue, number of guests and details. Most listings that are suitable for events start around $1,000 per night and go up from there. As we mentioned above, it’s important to reach out to the hosts and find out about any additional fees up front.

FI and I are planning a cheap wedding. It seemed we could easily save the most on the venue. I read online about renting out a nice airbnb. I live in Michigan so there are A LOT of cute lake houses/cottages. We were thinking of renting it for at least the day before the wedding and the day of and doing the ceremony and reception off in the yard/private beach. What’s been your experience for an airbnb wedding venue?

Its also important to consider issues of liability. In some cases, you may need to take out an insurance policy for your event. As a matter of fact, many vendors wont be willing to work with you without the appropriate level of insurance. While hosting your event at an Airbnb can save you money, this is something that can cause your costs to rise.
Think about what your ideal wedding would look like. What sort of venue would you want? How many guests would you want to have? See if it would be possible to host a wedding like that at an Airbnb property. You should also take a closer look at the properties near you. In some areas, youll find an impressive selection of options. In other locations, your options will be much more limited.

Having an Airbnb wedding has some definite benefits, but that doesnt mean its the best option for all couples. Before making a decision, its best to look at both the benefits and the drawbacks of getting married at an Airbnb.
When youre exploring your options, its important to remember that not all venues will allow you to host events on-site. In fact, if you browse Airbnb listings, youll see that many hosts specifically state that parties and other events are not allowed. Even if you find your dream venue on Airbnb, you may not be able to host your wedding there.

Hire Vendors Experienced With Airbnb Weddings
Are the details to consider and understand about an Airbnb wedding making you sweat a little bit? Girl, you do not need to stress! There are some amazing vendors who have helped plan and execute some amazing Airbnb weddings who will be some of the best teammates to make your dream wedding a reality. Heres some of my advice when it comes to hiring vendors with experience in Airbnb weddings:
Your vendor team will be your favorite people.
As youre planning your Airbnb wedding, think through the type of experience you are wanting to create. Vendors like food trucks or mobile bars are great vendors to consider for receptions at Airbnbs. Another important vendor to consider would be a mobile bathroom . A weddings and elopements planner would be able to connect you to great vendors in all of these categories who are willing to travel to remote locations in the mountains. Im always pro-planner and day-of coordinators because they take all of the logistical stress and worry off of the people who dont need to be thinking about details on the day of the wedding .

Talk to the Host and ask if Hosting Your Wedding at Their Airbnb is OK
Since Airbnbs are becoming a popular wedding venue alternative, its important to be clear with the property owner.
Can you have a wedding at an Airbnb? While we have found the answer is usually YES for small and intimate weddings, a lot of Airbnb owners are not ok with big traditional weddings.
Try to see the Property in Person
This is huge if youre planning on taking getting ready photos here or hosting a post elopement party with your immediate friends and family.
Seeing the property also allows you to consider the decor and location of the Airbnb.
Is the surrounding location somewhere you can take your wedding photos together?
Is there natural lighting?
If you arent sure, then connect with your photographer to see what you should be aware of when you visit the Airbnb.
Do Your Research
If youre considering having an Airbnb wedding, then you need to do your research. This includes looking at the reviews, photos, and full listing on these Airbnbs.
Are you having your four-legged friend join you on your wedding day? If so, then you need to make sure the Airbnb is pet friendly.
Is the Airbnb close to your wedding ceremony location? We recommend finding an Airbnb venue that is centrally located to all the things you are trying to do.

Cons Of Having An Airbnb Wedding
- Event restrictions. Not all Airbnbs permit events, so theres a chance your dream Airbnb doesnt allow people to host weddings on the property. But not to worry! There are still plenty of great options out there.
- Logistics! The logistics of finding and coordinating vendors can be stressful for some couples, so I always offer vendor research and recommendations with all of my Wedding & Elopement Packages! Id love to help you find fantastic vendors who will travel to your location and provide amazing service on your day.
- Additional rental costs. Although we listed cost as a pro as well, rental costs can add up too. Depending on the Airbnbs amenities and the size of your guest list, you may need to rent things like chairs, tableware, cookware, or additional portable restrooms to accommodate guests.
